Why Valya Harkonnen traveled to Arrakis with Ynez and Keiran in Dune: End of Prophecy

Valia will continue to dig into the enemies behind Desmond Hart

Varya Harkonen is finished Dune: Prophecy Season 1 is set in a compelling destination with more compelling traveling companions, all of which are important to break down. First, Varya’s interest in Arrakis stems from Desmond Hart’s initial confrontation with the sandworms. At some point before Season 1, an unknown player retrieved Desmond’s body and implanted a thinking machine within him, hoping to spread a new version of the Omnius Plague. This version of the plague was activated by fear, killing Sister Katha and Prewett Riches, and slowly spreading through the Sisterhood, causing them to have nightmares.

Keiran Atreides doesn’t trust Valya or any of the Harkonnen, he’s made that clear, but his only purpose now is to protect Ynez.

Valia’s purpose is to find out who sent Desmond Hart on this mission, and Arrakis is the perfect place to start the search. She takes Princess Inez with her to keep her safe, as Inez is the ideal candidate for the Sisters to ascend the throne of God, ensuring their control and influence over the known universe. Keiran Atreides doesn’t trust Valya or any of the Harkonnen, he’s made that clear, but his only purpose now is to protect Ynez. He still disagrees with the Empire’s overwhelming power, but he loves Inez and wants to help her.

A hidden enemy lurks in the Dune universe

Much of Desmond Hart’s identity was clarified in the final two episodes of the series, where he was revealed to be the son of Turla Harkonnen and Ori Atreides. At some point on Arrakis, he was devoured by sandworms and awoke with new powers, which the season 1 finale revealed were given by thinking machine implants that allowed him to spread Onina Plague. As for who specifically selected Desmond as a candidate, operated the program, and sent him on missions, that may be a character we haven’t seen yet.

Having said that, there is still room for speculation about what this unknown attacker wants. Their goal was to destroy the Sisterhood, and they chose Desmond Hart to weaponize his already existing hatred for the organization. This figure may have been someone wronged by the Sisters, perhaps during or after the Butlerian Crusade. It’s also possible that it’s the Thinking Machine itself, angry at the Sisterhood for taking their place in society, although the Season 1 finale seemed to hint at a human.

Why Desmond Hart Arrested His Mother Tula Harkonnen

Desmond still doesn’t trust Tula

Desmond Hart and Tula Harkonnen are finally reunited after being separated at his birth, and they have a brief, rather tender scene before he decides to arrest her. Viewers know that Tula has a deep love for Desmond and the only reason she sent him away was so that he could have a better life instead of becoming a tool for Valia and the Sisterhood. However, all Desmond knew was that he was sent away to live a bad life, so it would take a little more convincing before they could develop a proper mother-son relationship.

What will happen to the Sisterhood when Dorothee returns?

Who knows how long Dorotea can control Lila’s body?

Priest Aquila appears in Dune: Prophecy Season 1 Episode 5 via Lila (Chloe Lea)

Lila’s surgery resulted in her genetic ancestors taking over her body, and episode 5 showed Dean Aquila returning to help Tula Harkonnen. In the season finale, Dorotea returns, but she’s not nearly as helpful. Dorothea, channeled through Lila’s body, essentially led the Sisterhood’s rebellion against Varya Harkonnen, destroying Aquila’s forbidden thinking machine technology that allowed them to access the genetic archives. It’s unclear how long Dorothea will be able to control Lila’s body, but the Harkonen sisters have temporarily lost their rights to the sisterhood.

Why did Tula lie to Valya about her child?

Tula Harkonnen is always in a state of contradiction Dune: Prophecy Season 1. She is fiercely loyal to her sister, but despite the atrocities she committed against the Atreides on behalf of Varya’s wishes, she is not 100% sure of her sister’s character. In a flashback scene in episode six, Varya makes the remaining sisters swear undying loyalty to her, with Toula showing conflicted expressions before doing so. Like Francesca and Gavico, Tula is loyal to the Sisterhood, but even she has lines she’s unwilling to cross, and her children’s lives being swayed by Valia’s machinations is one of them.

Konstantin and Natalya will fight for power

After the death of Xavico Corino, the future of the Empire became one of the most important question marks. Javik’s only biological child was Inez, but she eloped with Valia Harkonen. That leaves two potential options: Prince Constantine Corino is Gavico’s bastard son, or Queen Natalya could try to pull off a Cersei Lannister-esque situation and become queen. Given that Natalia just killed Sister Francesca, she may not want her husband’s infidelity as the new emperor, which may put her in conflict with Constantine, who now controls the fleet.
