Before Star Wars’ upcoming Ahsoka series, the titular galactic hero played by Rosario Dawson has had quite the history in the 15 years since her first appearance. Having been created by George Lucas and Dave Filoni for The Clone Wars animated series back in 2008, Ahsoka Tano has become one of the most beloved characters in the Star Wars galaxy. This is due to the incredible journey Tano’s had from the Clone Wars into the New Republic Era set in the aftermath of the original trilogy.
As seen in the trailers for Ahsoka, Rosario Dawson will continue playing the former Jedi having first brought the character to live-action in The Mandalorian season 2and later in The Book of Boba Fett. Before that, Ahsoka was voiced by actress Ashley Eckstein in animation with The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Tales of the Jedi. Having had quite the arc with more adventures still to come in her new show, here are 15 things to know about Ahsoka Tano from her 15-year history in the Star Wars canon thus far.
15 Ahsoka Displayed Her Force Gifts From An Early Age
As seen in Tales of the Jedi season 1, Ahsoka Tano’s Force sensitivity was discovered at an early age on her homeworld of Shili. As an infant, Ahsoka was abducted by a native predator known as a raxshir. However, the young child bonded with the feline through the Force without fear and the beast brought her home. As such, it was decreed by the village elder that Ahsoka’s destiny was to become a Jedi Knight.
14 Ahsoka Was Brought To The Jedi Temple By Plo Koon
Once she was three years old, Ahsoka was brought before Jedi Master Plo Koon. Recognizing her talent in the Force, Master Plo brought Ahsoka back to Coruscant, beginning her life in the Jedi Temple to be trained. As such, Ahsoka had a close bond with Plo Koon who’d continue to be her mentor during her years as a member of the Jedi Order.
13 Ahsoka Became Anakin’s Padawan During The Clone Wars
Once Ahsoka was 14, Jedi Grandmaster Yoda made the decision that Tano would become Anakin Skywalker’s new apprentice. Although Skywalker initially had his objections and reluctance (especially due to the dawn of the Clone Wars), he eventually came to see Ahsoka as a kindred spirit. As such, it wasn’t long before Anakin and Ahsoka bonded over their new roles as master and apprentice. As a result, Ahsoka’s training took place during the chaos of the Clone Wars, becoming a commander of clone troops while also learning the ways of the Force from Skywalker.
12 Ahsoka Left The Jedi Order Before The Clone Wars’ End
Near the Clone Wars’ end, Ahsoka was framed for a bombing at the Jedi Temple. Forced to become a fugitive after the Jedi Council refused to believe her innocence, Ahsoka eventually cleared her own name with Anakin’s help. Although Ahsoka received the Council’s apologies with the offer of full knighthood, Ahsoka surprisingly chose to leave the Jedi Order, unable to reconcile the fact that the Council hadn’t supported her (as well as all the compromises made by the Jedi during the Clone Wars). Despite Anakin wanting her to stay, Ahsoka was determined to leave her life as a Jedi behind and forge a new path.
11 Ahsoka Returned For The Siege of Mandalore
In the final days of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka reunited with Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi, having learned about the former Sith Lord Maul and his takeover of Mandalore. Having joined with Bo-Katan Kryze, Ahsoka sent a message to Kenobi and Skywalker to ask for their help to defeat Maul and the Mandalorians loyal to his power. However, Kenobi and Skywalker were unable to assist after the kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine. Instead, Skywalker split the 501st Legion, leaving the newly formed 332nd Company in the command of Commander Rex. As such, the Siege of Mandalore occurred simultaneously with the events of The Revenge of the Sith.
10 Ahsoka Survived Order 66
In the aftermath of the Siege of Mandalore and Maul’s capture, Palpatine enacted Order 66 which identified all Jedi as traitors to the Republic with the clones having no choice but to comply due to their behavioral implants. Having been warned about a potential bio-chip conspiracy from past clones who were killed before the full truth came to light, Rex had just enough time to warn Ahsoka before he and the 332nd opened fire. This allowed Ahsoka to eventually incapacitate Rex and remove his chip while evading the countless troops ready to execute her.
Together, Rex and Ahsoka were able to crash the Venator-class Star Destroyer, killing the 332nd Company who only days before had painted their armor to resemble Ahsoka herself, a means of honoring their former commander. Burying all the troopers before leaving her lightsabers behind, Ahsoka joined Rex as the two became fugitives during the rise of Palpatine’s new Empire. Having only sensed that something terrible had happened to her master, Ahsoka believed that her master had died along with the countless Jedi slaughtered during Order 66, not knowing the truth that Skywalker had fallen to the dark side.
9 Ahsoka Forged Her White-Bladed Lightsabers From An Inquisitor
During the Empire’s reign known as the Dark Times, Tales of the Jedi season 1 reveals that Ahsoka came face to face with an Imperial Inquisitor, one of Darth Vader’s agents tasked with hunting down any who survived Order 66. Even without her lightsabers, Ahsoka was able to defeat the masked Inquisitor. To that end, the Ahsoka novel from E.K Johnston revealed that Ahsoka purified the Inquisitor’s red kyber crystals, cleansing them of their darkness for her new white-bladed lightsabers.
8 Ahsoka Becomes Fulcrum And Helped Create The Rebellion
As seen in the Star Wars Rebels animated series, Ahsoka was revealed to be “Fulcrum”, a codename she used to anonymously provide intel and missions to various Rebel cells. This made her a key figure working with Senator Bail Organa during the Rebellions’ earliest days before all the cells came together to form the official Rebel Alliance. Ahsoka also interacted with Jedi survivor Kanan Jarrus and his apprentice Ezra Bridger, aiding them when she could while also serving as a key ally and friend to the entire crew of The Ghost known as the Spectres.
7 Ahsoka Dueled Darth Vader On Malachor
Joining Kanan and Ezra to the Sith world of Malachor to locate a holocron, the three heroes came face to face with a trio of Imperial Inquisitors. They also encountered Maul himself who had no love for the Empire ruled by his former master. While a series of duels occurred, none were as significant as Ahsoka’s once Darth Vader arrived at Malachor’s Sith temple. Damaging Vader’s helmet during their duel, Ahsoka’s fears were confirmed as she was able to see the face of her old master within. Refusing to leave him again with Vader promising her death, Ahsoka and Darth Vader continued to duel as the temple fell around them.
6 Ahsoka Experienced The World Between Worlds
In the final episodes of Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger accessed the Force vergence known as the World Between Worlds. Hearing voices from across the Star Wars canon, Ezra was drawn to a particular moment in his past: Ahsoka’s duel with Darth Vader on Malachor. Reaching through the portal and saving Ahsoka, both Tano and Bridger were able to close off the vengeance after Palpatine himself tried using them to access the nexus of power. Likewise, Ahsoka was sent back in the past to her own time, explaining her survival after facing her corrupted master.
5 Ahsoka Took Sabine Wren As Her Padawan
In the aftermath of Star Wars Rebels, the trailers for the upcoming Ahsoka show have confirmed that Tano took the Spectres’ Sabine Wren to be her apprentice. Having inherited Ezra’s lightsaber, it seems as though Sabine sought to walk the path of the Jedi. That said, the trailers have also confirmed that Ahsoka ultimately abandoned Sabine’s training for some unknown reason.
4 Ahsoka Began Hunting For Grand Admiral Thrawn
As seen in The Mandalorian season 2 with Ahsoka’s live-action debut, Tano confirmed she’d begun hunting for Grand Admiral Thrawn. A brilliant Imperial leader who disappeared into the Unknown Regions thanks to his defeat by Ezra (who also went missing), Thrawn is a major threat to the galaxy. As such, Ahsoka was seemingly looking for answers in the hopes of finding Thrawn and likely Bridger as well. After all, trailers for Ahsoka have confirmed that Tano started hearing “whispers of Thrawn’s return as Heir to the Empire”.
3 Ahsoka Refused To Train Grogu
Although Din Djarin and the child known as Grogu helped Ahsoka locate and question Thrawn’s agent Morgan Elsbeth, Tano ultimately refused to train Grogu despite Djarin’s mission to return the child to his own kind (Jedi). No longer considering herself to be a Jedi, Ahsoka also sensed the great attachment Grogu had for Djarin as well as his inner conflict. However, she did point Djarin and Grogu in the right direction to get in contact with Luke Skywalker who’d begun plans to restart the Jedi Order.
2 Ahsoka Met Luke Skywalker On Ossus
As seen in The Book of Boba Fett, it was revealed that Ahsoka and Luke Skywalker had already met for the first time off-screen. Reuniting on the Jedi world of Ossus where Luke had begun building his new Jedi Temple, Ahsoka and the son of Skywalker shared a few moments together watching Grogu train. However, Ahsoka left rather quickly to presumably continue her mission of finding Thrawn.
1 Ahsoka And Sabine Reunite As Master And Apprentice
Now, Ahsoka is set to continue the former Jedi’s journey to find and defeat Thrawn. Likewise, it’s been teased that Ahsoka and Sabine will be reuniting to continue Wren’s training to effectively stop the threats in store as master and apprentice in the new Star Wars show. Episodes 1 and 2 of Ahsoka premiere Tuesday, August 22 on Disney+.
