2 Teens Accused of Murdering Woman in Drive-By Shooting Re-Arrested After Allegedly Cutting Off Monitors

One woman was killed and another was injured in the shooting

Two teenage murder suspects, aged 15 and 17, have been re-arrested in Texas after allegedly cutting off their ankle monitors.

In October 2022, the suspects allegedly drove around in a stolen vehicle and fired more than 100 rounds into a house they believed had the people who had previously shot at them inside. In the incident, a 41-year-old woman was shot in the leg and another woman – later identified as 25-year-old Novita Brazil – was fatally wounded.

“They were arrested at that time. A few months after that, they were certified as adults,” Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar explained at a news conference Tuesday.

According to Salazar, “At some point after that they committed. They got bond and then they both cut off their ankle monitors. There were warrants out for their arrest. No bond. We’ve been looking for them for the last couple of weeks.”

The unidentified 15-year-old suspect was arrested “a few days ago” after a vehicle chase and charged with murder, Salazar explained. “During that chase, he was filming like live video knowing full well that he was running from the police, knowing full well that he was going to be arrested at any moment,” he said.

According to Salazar, the 17-year-old suspect, identified as Isaac Gonzales, was recording a Facebook Live video when he was arrested.

“I believe he was on the phone with someone who said, ‘Hey, watch it or give it to me,’ or whatever it was, letting people know he was going to be arrested on social media. And then, of course, you saw his attitude as we saw off, completely taking the whole thing as a game,” he explained.

The Bexar County Sheriff explained in a press release Tuesday that two warrants were issued for Gonzales’ arrest on Oct. 20, which were murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. They explained that they believe Gonzalez “is aware of his active warrants and is evading law enforcement.”

Salazar added during the news conference that Gonzales “bragged on social media” about the incident and described him as “an extremely brash, very confident young man, confident that he will take full advantage of the legal system.”

In a GoFundMe campaign launched after the incident to support Brazile’s family, loved ones remembered her as “the sweetest person you’ll ever meet.”
