Who is Jesse Lee Calhoun?
Jesse Lee Calhoun (38) is a person of interest in the murders of four women whose remains were found in the winter and spring, according to multiple sources at various agencies. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday morning that a fourth death may be linked. Calhoun is currently in custody. Although Calhoun has a long criminal record, it is unclear how he is connected to the four deaths. Calhoun was charged in 2019 with three counts of unauthorized use of a vehicle, one count of assault on a public safety officer and one count of first-degree robbery, according to the Department of Corrections.
In defiance, Calhoun choked the K9 and punched the officer repeatedly when SWAT officers arrived at his home to arrest him on outstanding warrants, according to court records from the incident. Additional court records reveal that he was a self-employed vehicle dealer and that he had been living in southeast Portland as recently as last year. In 2019, he also lived with his family in Troutdale and Wood Village. He has two teenage children, according to the same information, he often took methamphetamine. Its scheduled June 2022 release date has since changed. But in 2021, then-Governor Kate Brown approved a transfer order clearing select inmates eligible for clemency. On July 22, 2021, Calhoun, who was one of those inmates, was released.
In a statement, Brown said: “I am absolutely devastated for the victims, their families and all who have suffered these losses.” Between February and May 2023, 4 women were murdered. He also served time for fourth-degree assault in Baker County from 2009 to 2011, according to the Department of Corrections. The request to revoke Calhoun’s surrogate status was received and signed on July 3, according to the governor’s office, which said it was received that day. With a scheduled release date of June 9, 2024, Calhoun is back in custody serving the remainder of his sentence. In connection with the death of the four women, he was not charged.
