2021 First Timers Guide: Labyrinth of The Ancients

Labyrinth of the Ancients is the first of three raids in the Pylon Alliance raid series. It’s also the first 24-player role most people will encounter in the game, and one of the most common in their daily Alliance Raid Roulette.

For new players keen to cut their weight, many of the guides you read or view will contain a lot of irrelevant information, with experienced players safely ignoring specific combat tactics or skipping high DPS boss stages.

My goal in writing this series of guides is to provide you with the most relevant information on how content currently plays, as well as tips to help you continue to significantly contribute to the success of raids. For each section, a few notes tell you everything you need to know about playing the encounter as your chosen character. Below these, I’ll add other notes about the battle.

Alliance Raid Basics

– You will see two new items on your HUD: these are the team lists for the other two teams in the raid. It shows the player’s jobs and health, as well as a red box describing who currently has aggression.

– You can locate players by clicking on them in the alliance list. Very useful for bringing in another group of healers or healing the main tank if they are on a different team.

– You can train and single-target players from other teams, but some of your abilities are only available to members of your own team. For example, you can’t dodge tanks on the other side, nor can you heal non-team members with area healers like Medica, Succor, or Helios.

– Above your own party list, it will tell you which party (A, B or C) you belong to. Sometimes the parts need to be separated and signs are used to show where each part is going. If no signs are posted, A usually goes to the left, B goes to the middle, and C goes to the right.

Dungeon Mob – Clear the forgotten pool

– Stand on raised platforms to avoid puddles of poison.

– Valefor mobs have front and rear cone attacks.

tank

– All tanks should try to grab aggro and bring it back to the team for area of effect damage.

– Made the Valefor and Greater Demon mobs turn their backs on the party, as they do not signal a frontal attack.

– You can interrupt Dila Netherfire II either black mist AoE with interjection.

curator

– Monitor the health of all party members. Between poison, unmarked cleaves, and potentially uneven tanky aggro, the spread of damage can be unexpected.

– Valefor mobs have an unmarked cone breath attack that deals disease, slows movement speed, and incoming healing. Dispel it with Asuna.

damage per second

– Avoid standing in front of Valefor mobs to avoid their disease debuffs. It is safer to step aside.

– Interrupt Dila’s spellcasting with Head Rub, or stun monsters with Leg Sweep.

Boss Battle – Bone Dragon

– Standing on the raised platform, focus on the Skeletal Dragon. Then kill Platinum Skull and repeat.

tank

– The main tank pushes the boss to the north while staying on the raised platform. Pick him up when he comes back to life.

to eye It can be interrupted with an interjection.

– Secondary tanks can grab Eye of Rot mobs on the center platform after the second dragon revive to prevent them from attacking the healer.

curator

– The tanks can be far to the north, so stay within range while avoiding the poison.

– Kill the Platinum Skeleton mob after the dragon has fallen.

– When Platinals dash towards the dragon corpse, they deal high damage that ignores shields. Ready for AoE healing.

damage per second

– Not much room to maneuver on raised platforms, but avoid splitting into tanks.

– The boss can use leg sweep and his to eye It can be interrupted by rubbing the head.

– Kill the Platinum Skeleton mob after the dragon has fallen.

– Prepare to use “Wind of Resurrection” when the platinum monster rushes towards the dragon corpse and explodes.

Dungeon Mob – Clear the Path of Lamentation

– Divide the alliance into groups A, B, C. Don’t start too early; you need enough players in each lane.

– Four players must stand on a colored platform at the entrance so that other alliances can damage their Atomos.

tank

– Go to Atoms. Pull them towards the back deck when you add spawns so healers and ranged DPS can hit them.

curator

– Stay on the back platform until it stops glowing.

– Hit them when they come into range.

damage per second

– You need two DPS to stay on the back platform with the healer until it stops glowing. Hit them when they come into range. Remote controls and wheels are best for this.

– Other DPS should move forward and focus on Atomos, melee DPS has priority.

I have seen many teams start this fight early and it is very annoying because it can add extra time at the end of the fight, with barely enough players in a row and the rest of the alliance waiting for them to finish. If you don’t enter before the 15 second countdown, you will automatically be placed in the leftmost lane (where Alliance A usually goes).

Boss Fight – Thanatos

– Alliance A starts with a 60 second “Astral Alignment” debuff, causing them to deal damage to Thanatos.

– Every 30 seconds, the next alliance will get the bind and debuff and should start attacking Thanatos.

– If you don’t have the debuff yet (or it has expired), kill the Sandman and Nemesis monsters.

tank

– If your alliance gets the second debuff, piss off Thanatos when it’s time to switch.

– interrupt the boss Dusk Blade Use the Interject attack to avoid being knocked down.

curator

– If the green flask runs out, it can be healed, but this can be skipped as enemies die quickly.

damage per second

– Nemesis moves very fast. Melee DPS may need to stun them with a leg sweep first, or attack the Sandman in the middle.

– You can help interrupt the boss Dusk Blade Hit him with a head rub or stun him with a leg sweep.

This is another part that you should not remove early because it will actually take more time, not less. The Astral Alignment debuff only applies to players who are nearby at the start of the fight, so if Alliance A isn’t already there, those party members will lose their chance to deal boss damage for a full minute.

Dungeon Mob – Clear Path of Fire

– Divide the alliance into groups A, B, C.

tank

– Take your assigned Vassago and place it away from other groups. Pick up Allagan’s balloon and ignore the Napalms.

curator

– If Vassago or Napalms hit the central allagan bomb, watch out for their AoE damage.

damage per second

– Focus on your designated Vassago, stop and kill the balloons and molotov cocktails that spawn next to it.

– You can stun balloons with a leg sweep.

All the tanks need to be ready here, as you need to keep the Vassago apart from each other. Napalm ignores hostility, so tanks can leave them for DPS to kill. Once they reach the center, they explode. A healer can fix this, but it can get a bit tricky if there’s too much left to explode.

Boss Battle – King Behemoth

– Using the green marker, place the comet outside of the Behemoth hitbox, near the center of the arena.

– During this time zodiac meteor Cast the spell by hiding behind a rock, breaking line of sight with the giant beast.

tank

– The main tank engages the Behemoth away from the crowd with an unmarked cleavage attack.

– Offtanks Pick up the Iron Giant addon and face him at the edge of the arena (remember to place a rock between you and the boss).

curator

– The ground is electrified, so watch out for your team’s bleed damage in combat.

damage per second

– Kill Puroboros and Iron Giant added

The Iron Giant adds a slash that will damage both the player and the rock, so aim them away from both. Note that if a comet lands inside Behemoth’s hitbox, it will not protect it from zodiac meteor.

Boss Fight – Phlegethon

– Divide the alliance into groups A, B, C.

– Keep an eye on Phlegethon’s health. About 50% and 25% started their old sparkler Actor, save the sprint for this and return to your team platform. Each platform requires at least four players to raise the barrier.

tank

– after every old sparkler The boss has a great AoE when attacking the main tank, so get into a position in front of him quickly and stay away from the raid to avoid splitting the others.

curator

– Stay close to the edge of the arena to lure out Iron Claws and get back to your platform quickly.

– Consider rescuing slow players from the arena during matches old sparkler throw.

damage per second

– Focus on the iron claws that appear behind you, they will grab the player closest to them.

– Use abilities like Elusive Jump, Shukuchi, or Aetherial Manipulation to help quickly retreat to your team’s platform if necessary old sparkler.

If I had to guess, I’d say 20-30% of the time I’d watch this fight where we ended up with a old sparkler throw. Either because too many people are new, or because not enough people are following you. That being said, it’s possible for a good team to manage DPS high enough to kill him before his second cast is up.

Pro Tip: Be sure to leave the instance quickly after Phlegethon shuts down so you don’t get stuck with 8 pieces of Ancient loot clogging up your inventory.
