Those looking forward to a new 21 Savage biopic may have to wait a little longer.
During a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay podcast with Shannon Sharpe this week, the 31-year-old British-born rapper admitted that his life story was more of a promotion for another upcoming project.
“No, it was a parody,” Savage said, referring to the biopic that starred Donald Glover as the “Rich Flex” hitmaker.
Earlier this month, the “A Lot” artist released a trailer for the film The American Dream: 21 Stories of the Savage. In the preview, fans saw Atlanta actor, 40, who plays a hip hop star — complete with face tattoos and extra hair.

Others who appeared in the video are also included Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin, Gail Bean, Druski, Jabari Banks, Chad Lindberg, Victoria Pedretti, Young Mazino and Natasha Lyonne. It was planned for Independence Day 2024, and the “music inspired by the film” is available on January 12.
However, the trailer was actually promoting 21 Savage American dream album, his first independent release since 2018 I am > I was.

Fans had previously expected Glover and McLaughlin, 22, to portray the Grammy winner at different stages of his life. Bel-Air‘s Banks, 25, appeared as Savage’s longtime collaborator, music producer Metro Boomin.

The fake biopic gave a glimpse into key moments in Savage’s growing up, such as dealing with bullies during his school years. It also featured when ICE controversially arrested him and held him in immigration detention for 10 days in 2019 for a visa that expired in 2006, after he and his mother moved to the US from the UK during his childhood.
In October 2023, he became a “lawful permanent resident” and is allowed to legally travel outside the US

At the time, his attorney shared a statement obtained by PEOPLE: “She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph has followed all applicable immigration laws since he was initially detained by ICE. His immigration proceedings have now been terminated and he is a lawful permanent resident of the United States with freedom of international travel.”
And as for his biographical trailer to promote his new album, 21 Savage has already shown his creative side — even as it landed him in trouble with media publisher Condé Nast.
The brand sued both him and Drake in November 2022 after the duo allegedly used a fake Vogue magazine covers to promote the joint album Her loss.

The lawsuit, filed in the Southern District of New York, alleges that a “broad promotional campaign” for their album was “entirely built” on Voguetrademarks, as the images appeared to show the rappers featured side-by-side in the magazine’s modified December issue.
The complaint states that “none of this was authorized by Condé Nast,” and alleges that fake copies of the magazine were distributed in metropolitan areas across North America.
“Vogue magazine and its editor-in-chief Anna Wintour were not involved in the Her loss or his promotion, and they did not support him in any way,” the complaint added.
The company also alleged that the media had taken statements and images and published them, leading to “confusion”.
