Travis Kelce’s Dad Claims He Didn’t Know Taylor Swift’s Name the First Time He Met Her: ‘I Know This Kid!’

Travis Kelce’s father couldn’t get Taylor Swift’s name right when he first saw her in person.

On Friday, Ed Kelce appeared as a guest on Audacy’s 92.3 Fan in Cleveland where he opened his son’s famous girlfriend. During the conversation, he recalled how his acquaintance with the pop star (34) went.

“When Travis has a lot of friends coming into town for a game, they all meet at his house, even though he’s not there,” Ed began.

“Taylor walks in with the security guy, I look at her and say [to my girlfriend], ‘Oh my God! I know this little one, but I don’t know her name.’ Jesus, you know, like a real idiot. AND [my girlfriend] says: ‘You don’t know her? This is Taylor Swift, idiot,” he continued.

While he may not have been able to mention her name at the time, Ed is aware of the 12-time Grammy winner’s fan base and influence.

“It’s funny because last year, Donna and I — we were featured on TV and we had some articles that were done. So our [names were] Out there. We were so popular that the commissioner offered to sit in the box for the Super Bowl,” Ed shared about how he and the mother of his sons began to gain some notoriety thanks to their professional football boyfriends.

“However, more people recognize us since he started dating Taylor,” he admitted. “I’ll be [in] in the store, someone will smile and say, ‘Hey!’ Come and say [Hi], and I have no idea who they are. It’s certainly increased and become more common than in the pre-Taylor days.”

The “Love Story” singer and the Kansas City Chiefs athlete went public with their relationship in October 2023. However, when Swift was named TimePerson of the Year 2023 in December, she said they were in a relationship before that.

In fact, when she was first seen at one of Travis’ games in September, they were already a “couple.”

“I think some people think they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to start a first date hard,” Swift added.

Earlier this month, a source exclusively told PEOPLE that the power couple are still going strong and are “really happy” together.

“They’re having a lot of fun, but they’re still seeing where it goes,” the source continued.

The couple began dating shortly after Travis revealed his in late July New heights podcast with his older brother Jason Kelce that he tried to take a picture of himself with Swift after one of her concerts.

The singer of the song “Blank Space” also reflected on that moment on her profile with Timesaying that “it all started when Travis very sweetly blasted me on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.”

“Immediately after that we started hanging out. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew about, which I’m grateful for, because we got to meet each other.”
