29-Year-Old Mom with Cancer Recalls Telling Her 4 Kids About Fatal Prognosis: 'I Remember Them Screaming'

The 29-year-old mom with terminal cancer is trying to establish memories with four children after breast cancer has spread-when she was, just five years ago, told she was not old enough for the disease.

Ashleigh Ellerton first sought medical care for pain in the right breast in 2020. Since she did not have a family history of illness – and that time was only 24 years old – she was told she was “too young”, for cancer, Ellerton told Ellerton Daily Mail.

Once a lump appeared, she returned to the doctor, where she, she said, “I refused to leave until they sent me to the breast clinic.” The tests found that it had inflammatory breast cancer. As the American Cancer Society explains, it is a rare, aggressive and invasive type of disease in which the breast looks inflamed from cancer cells that blocks lymphatic vessels in the skin.

The chemotherapy and radiation were subjected to – as well as mastectomy – and in December of that year, Ellerton, from the English city of Bridlington, said there was no evidence of the disease. But the mom whose children are moving at the age of 5 to 11, she says she was worried, saying the socket: “I was convinced that cancer was not done with me.”

She married her partner Simon 2021, but says, “I told my nurse who came to my wedding that cancer would return to my liver.”

A year later, she contracted a sepsis-at life a dangerous condition in which the immune system responds incorrectly to infection and undergoing surgery to remove the damaged gallbladder, doctors saw that Ellerton was right: her cancer was metastasized in the liver.

“It was a shock, but I read the stories and I saw people live much longer,” Ellerton said of the 2022 diagnosis. “I didn’t think I would die in three years, no way.” But Ellerton began to develop migraines – a symptom of cancer cancer on her brain and spinal cord.

“My daughter asked if my Santa Claus could take away my cancer,” Ellerton says. “I would like to remember to be present,” Ellerton said, “and that I fought as much as I could.”
