After becoming parents for the first time earlier this year, Fred and Sydney Warner are doing their best to nurture their child, not to mention the world.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker and his Bachelor alum wife share 2-month-old Beau Anthony β and a desire to “raise awareness” of childhood malnutrition, they tell PEOPLE in an exclusive interview.
βBefore we had the baby, we really didn’t know anything about what to do, but then you’re thrown into it and you learn so quickly,β Sydney, 29, tells PEOPLE. “And with that comes how to feed your baby, how to help her get as strong as possible to be healthy, and nutrition is a big part of that.”
That’s why the pair have teamed up with Abbott and Real Madrid for a new campaign that addresses the issue.

“One in three people in the world is malnourished, so that’s a huge number of people, and we want to use our platform and our new journey as parents to raise awareness and just do what we can,” says Sydney.

For Fred, the initiative also gives him a chance to focus on something away from football, months after the seven-year pro and his team suffered a heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The BYU graduate, 27, drew attention for his emotional response after fellow linebacker Dre Greenlaw tore his Achilles coming off the sideline during a game.
After his teammate’s injury, Warner was seen kneeling and bowing his head on the touchline.
“Yeah, it was a real feeling,” Warner recalls. “At this point, I was just going through what was natural when you lose a brother out there, especially one that I’m as close to Dre as anyone I’ve ever played with, so my heart just ached for him at that point, knowing what he was going through and he obviously lost because of that game, especially because of the game he played.β

Warner continues: βHe had such a great game. That game should have helped us win the championship, but it was what it was and Dre is doing great. His mindset has been great about it and he will come back better than ever.β
Earlier this month, the bond between the two became apparent after Warner presented Greenlaw with the Dwight Clark Legacy Award, an honor the California native won the previous year, which is given to someone who is both an outstanding teammate and community leader.
As for the newest member of the Warner community, little Beau Anthony is a “really good baby” who – so far – has been letting mom and dad not lose too much sleep.
“We’re just happy to have a healthy baby,” says Sydney. “And now we want to make sure there are other healthy babies.”
