The penultimate episode of the fourth season of Succession was praised by fans and critics alike – and with good reason. The episode after Logan Roy’s funeral has many blinking moments and you’ll remember it revealing the character’s motivations. Ahead of the season finale, here are some subtle yet amazing moments you might have missed…
Connor and Kendall look at Roman
During Shiv’s speech, she talks about how they were afraid of Logan as children. She recounts a story where they were playing outside his office and mimicked Logan shouting at them to silence them. At the time, both Connor and Kendall seemed to be eyeing Roman, who famously endured his father’s scolding while growing up. That brief moment suggested that Shiva’s impression reminded them of Logan’s treatment of his youngest son.

Ewan realized something about Kendall
For a very brief moment, Logan’s brother Ewan – who openly and deeply hates his brother – glanced at the coffin before turning his eyes to Kendall. In episode 8, Kendall expresses her concern to Shiva that he is not a good father, adding, “perhaps the poison is dripping.” At the time, Ewan seemed to notice an uncanny resemblance to Kendall’s late brother.

Mattson and Mencken’s Moment
During Kendall’s astonishing speech about his father, the camera pans toward the crowd – focusing on Matsson’s clearly dramatic reaction to Kendall’s impromptu eulogy. Moments later, the camera panned to what could be the new president of the United States, Menken, who looked equally impressed with the speech. Since both are key to Waystar Royce’s future, could this be a great audition for Kendall?

Caroline and Gerri .’s Roman Moment
Roman’s downfall is hard to follow, especially since we’re used to him being a tough prankster who ‘sads’ his father first. However, as Roman begins to sob as his siblings support him, we see a moment of reaction from his mother, Caroline, who looks a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable, before focus on Gerri.

While Gerri and Roman’s relationship is weird, it seems that Gerri is clearly more of a mother to him than Caroline, as she seems genuinely interested in his reaction. She then also told the board because she was reviewing his melee.
Shiv’s speech – and Kendall
During Shiv’s speech, she finally admits to her father’s mistake, revealing that she struggled to be his daughter. She said, “He can’t put a woman in his head.” At this point, Kendall’s treatment of the women in his life earlier in the episode becomes more profound than ever.

Kendall Roy’s Speech Progress – and What It Means
When he began his speech with a shaky start, trying to understand what Roman was trying to say and giving up completely, receiving warm applause for his eulogy, he almost as demonstrated his transformation into his father.

Jeremy Strong alluded to the profound change the funeral brought to Kendall, telling The Hollywood Reporter: “It was his father’s funeral and Kendall’s coronation at the same time. I’m leaving the church. There’s been a profound change from the way I got into that church to the way. And the kind of storyline with Hugo, there’s only one determination in the character. I think we’re seeing more and more of that with him. is Logan Roy’s son and Logan is his middle name.”
