90 Day: The Last Resort Finale: Found Out Which Pairs Recommitted — and Who Split

Couples therapy has officially ended for the stars 90 day: last refuge in the finale of the first season.

The first season of the TLC series brought together five legacy couples hoping to reconnect — and recommit — to each other after past betrayals. While the therapist’s intervention was beneficial for some of the individuals, others collapsed under the pressure of denying their relationship.

The girls waited for the recommitment ceremony to begin, with the three dressed in white – and Kalani dressed in orange to represent the sun.

Monday’s episode featured the final group therapy session, which dealt with an extremely dramatic group boat ride and Jovi Dufren’s problems with strippers.

Eventually, a heart-to-heart talk between Jovi and his wife Yara Zaya led him to realize that his behavior had damaged Yara’s self-esteem. “I realize that the best thing I can do for my wife is not to put her in a position where she feels ashamed,” he said.

Yara explained that her shame stemmed from growing up in Ukraine, where public image was a top priority in her household. This explained why Jovi’s love of strip clubs provoked Yara’s insecurity about her own beauty. “I knew Yara didn’t like me going to strip clubs, but I thought she was just being protective. I didn’t know that going to strip clubs made him feel more insecure,” said Jovi in front of the cameras. “Knowing how much this hurt her, I regret leaving. I didn’t know this would affect her so negatively.” He made a pact – no more strip clubs except without Yara.

As chapters closed on past dramas, it was time for recommitment ceremonies. Only four couples remain after Kelly Brown and Molly Hopkins exited the series early. Here’s where each of the four ended up — and what vows they exchanged — at the end of the season.

Angela and Michael

The last refuge

Angela Deem and virtual Michael Ilesanmi filed their divorce papers on 90 Day: The Last Resort.

TLC

Angela Deem arrived at the ceremony with divorce papers in hand, but she had a lot to say before telling Michael Ilesanmi why she was holding the legal papers. The Nigerian — who had to attend therapy sessions virtually from his native land in Africa — began by professing his love for Angela.

“I promise you my wife, I won’t lie to you,” he said. “I will be honest with you at all times. Also, I will make you happy now and forever, my love. And also, I will support you in good times and bad, so my God. Amen.”

Angela was next. “I don’t have to write anything I say to you because it comes directly from my heart. I just want to tell you — I’ve always loved you, I’ve never given up on us, but, you know, I really do, or I wouldn’t be here. And I’m shocked that I’m doing this, I love you Michael, with all my heart, but these are divorce papers,” she said.

After a mini-cliffhanger, Angela tore up the divorce papers and reaffirmed her commitment to marriage. “It breaks my heart that I had to go so far,” she said. “I know we still have a long way to go, this doesn’t stop here. But I am your wife and I will support you in everything you need.”

Angela also addressed Michael’s past infidelity. Although the couple has yet to fully rebuild their trust, Angela said the time spent at the resort was enough to start their new journey off on the right foot. “I just want you to know that I’m older. You have your whole life ahead of you and if you truly love me, let it work because you know I don’t like to lie,” she told Michael. “I love you. I’m here because I love you. I should have left you many times, but I love you. Don’t take it for granted.”

Kalana and Asuel

The last refuge

Kalani Faagata and Asuela Pulaa decided to end their marriage on 90 Day: The Last Resort.

TLC

Next up were Kalani Faagata and Asuelu Pulaa, who officially ended their marriage in last week’s episode. The fallout from Kalani’s decision continued Monday as they vowed to cooperate peacefully.

“I promise to be a better friend to you and build a good friendship. I want to learn how to communicate gently and be calmer and more patient with you,” Kalani told Asuel. “I want to be with you and for you to do the same with me. And I want to parent you the best I can so we can continue to have a very good, strong family. I just want to make sure that our kids always come first and that we just help each other.”

Asuelu was emotional and admitted that it was “the worst day of my life”.

“I just want to commit that I want to have a beautiful co-parent with you and I want to appreciate everything you do and do for me,” he said. “I just want to apologize for everything I’ve done to you and hurt you and hurt your feelings. I just hope you forgive what I’ve done and all the past we have, I want you to let it go and just make a new friendship. I just want you to we love, respect and trust each other from here to the future.”

They sealed the deal with a sweet hug and a promise to work on building a friendship far different from their unstable romantic relationship. Kalani broke down in tears in the interview talking about the conflicting emotions she felt after the decision to divorce.

“I feel anger and sadness and relief, and it’s just a lot — I was numb. I numbed myself for years to deal with what he did to me,” she said, referring to Asuelo’s repeated cheating. “So even though I know it’s the right thing to do, it’s really hard to do. I just hope my kids know that I did everything I could, like, I really tried for years, but I know for my own sanity and my kids’ health, it had to stop.”

Jovi and Yara

Here's Which ‘90 Day: The Last Resort’ Pairs Recommitted— and Who Split — After the couples therapy finale

Jovi Dufren and Yara Zaya had an argument over his frequent visits to the strip club on 90 Days: The Last Resort.

TLC

With the stress of the strip club behind them, Yara and Jovi were ready to step into a new light – as spouses and parents. Jovi was the first to express his love and renewed commitment to Yara. “I want to work on better communication with you and building mutual trust because that’s one of the biggest things we’ve had trouble with,” he said. “I want to make you feel loved, I want to make you feel beautiful and I want to give you and [our daughter] Myla takes more of my time. I want to give you more special, romantic moments to make you feel appreciated and I love the way you’ve changed me to become a better person.”

Yara followed with a sweet declaration of love, plus a round of applause for Jovi’s skill in raising their three-year-old. “I just want to start by saying that you are a great loving husband and the best dad in the world, and now I’m going to cry. you are [the best] dad yes me [could] ever dream. Myla is so lucky to have you and I am so lucky to have you. I just want to be the same, good wife to you as I am a mother, as we are both parents [little bun],” she said.

Adding a romantic sentence in Ukrainian, Yara vowed to her husband. “I just want to promise you that I will talk more about my feelings other than getting angry or mad at you. From today you will be bound to me [I promise you to choose happiness and love and not shame and anger].”

Ed and Liz

The last refuge

Liz Woods and Ed Brown contemplate getting engaged in 90 Day: The Last Resort.

TLC

The latest recommitment came from “Big Ed” Brown and Elizabeth “Liz” Woods, who weren’t shy about counting their previous 13 breakups (the last time viewers saw them on screen, they split for the 11th time). Ed got down on one knee to propose to Liz “one last time”.

“I want you to know how lucky you really are to find such a nice catch,” Ed began jokingly. From there he led with sincerity. “You are one of the kindest, warmest, most loving women, moms and fiancees,” he said. “You make me want to be a better man. You make me a better son, a better father and a better partner.”

After expressing his love not only for Liz, but for her daughter as well, Ed was stunned that Liz couldn’t give an answer – at least not until she spoke.

“You taught me to laugh again. You have supported me and I just want to let you know that you are not unnoticed. You take really good care of Ryleigh and I can see how much you love her. You connect with her in ways that somehow I don’t seem to connect with her. And I hope you really know how much he loves you,” Liz said of Ed’s special bond with her daughter.

Liz also reflected on the growth in their communication and trust while attending the retreat. “As long as we continue to learn to communicate with each other, listen to what we say to each other, and accept that we may not necessarily agree, we know that with a little time, we can and will see the sun rise on all our tomorrows from this sunset forward. Forever, hand in hand, as we were meant to be. Thank you for loving me and Ryleigh. I love you, I’ll move to Arkansas with you.”

She then teased, “I have one more thing for you,” before pulling out an engagement ring for Ed that she had been holding on to for a year while she waited for the right time to recommit. “I want you to have this ring so you know I’m committed to you forever,” she said. Ed gladly accepted the ring, and the couple officially agreed to begin wedding planning.

Another dinner on the beach was prepared for the couples. They danced, laughed, and got invited to Ed and Liz’s wedding as they all agreed to leave their resort drama behind — and recommit to friendships in the real world.
