The Courtney Banks first discovered the “Buddha BBL” via Instagram ad.
The 31-year-old work therapist with the Boynton Beach in Florida moved the app when Squalpt came across her food. The Miami-based clinic has a safe and effective alternative to the traditional BBL (or Brazilian buttocks), a popular procedure that involves removing fat from other parts of the body with liposuction and injection in the buttocks.
“I was in this Enlightenment period of inventing myself, but also looking for less invasive beauty [treatments]”Banks tells people.
“Having competed on Instagram ads and seeing these beautiful women with their natural figures, I said, ‘Oh, my God,” he continues, adding: “The option to avoid general anesthesia for me was a big victory for me. ”
Alert BBL provides more subtle results than the traditional BBL, but the main difference is that awake patients with BBL are aware, relying on local anesthesia, laughed at gas and other pain management and discomfort. According to SQULPT website, doctors use “tiny precise instruments and smooth vibration technology” to perform a $ 15,000 procedure.

“I felt mostly a vibration, and when they took out the fat, a kind of tightening sense, but nothing unbearable,” Banks says of his actions in August 2023.

She returned to work after two weeks of recovery, and a year and a half later, she was still delighted with her results. “The second to the third month, you start to really see your curves a little more pronounced when the swelling falls,” Banks says. “Once I was able to start doing my exercises, I said, ‘Who. Marcie, 20, had a awake BBL in Squalpt, June 2024 and had a similar smooth experience. “You can feel the doctors working in you, but it doesn’t really hurt,” she said about the procedure. “Because it’s a pretty new feeling, I could say it’s annoying – maybe only 2 out of 10. But I didn’t catch my seat with tears in my eyes.”
She adds that the “awake” aspect of the procedure is exactly what made her choose Squalpt. While ending her sleep during most surgery, she admitted that her attraction was a waking BBL “purely out of curiosity to see what was happening.”

For many patients with squlpt, avoiding the side effects of general anesthesia is the main extraction of a waking BBL -but there are other advantages.
“When you are under general anesthesia, your muscles are completely paralyzed,” says Dr. Daniel Suissa, founder of Squlpt. “[If a patient is awake]The muscle is active and is tense. It is very easy to slide [the needle used in surgery] between the skin and that rigid muscle to find a real plane. ”

If the muscle is soft, as it would be under general anesthesia, it explains, “it becomes harder to find that plane”, which increases the risk of perforation.

The feedback of the awake patient also helps to avoid perforation. If the needle is too close to the fascia (connective tissue around the muscle), the patient will be able to say. “It’s not much pain, it’s not a big discomfort, but they feel it,” says Dr. Suissa. “They have a reaction and you know exactly where you are. So the procedure makes a lot, much safer.”
However, the awake BBL is not for everyone. Dr. Usha Rajagopal, a plastic surgeon and medical director of plastic surgery and the Laser Center in San Francisco, tells people that, although recovery is usually lighter, awake BBL is “limited when it comes to larger injections of the area.”
“In these cases, patients’ comfort and safety becomes more careful,” she says.
He also points out that some clinics offer procedures under local anesthesia because they may not be plastic surgeons certified on the board and are not authorized to manage general anesthesia.
The idea of waking up during surgery can surely be alarming, but because of the ease and reduced costs of waking BBL, it will probably only continue to increase popularity. According to Dr. Suissi, the awake procedures began in a rudimentary form in the 1970s and reached large steps in the last decade, with these progress surely continuing.
“[My friends and family] were obviously a little nervous and worried about me [before my surgery]”Banks says.” But when they saw me rejecting myself and re -entering my usual routines, then I started to get more questions like, “Oh, God, how do I book? How can I get a consultation?” ”
