A Reba Reunion! Steve Howey Set to Appear on Reba McEntire's New Series Happy’s Place

The family is reunited.

Ahead of the film’s premiere on October 18 Happy’s Place — a new sitcom starring Reba McIntire Reba costar Melissa Peterman — series creator Kevin Abbott revealed to TV Line that he’s another Reba Alumnus to appear in series: Steve Howey.

According to a synopsis provided by NBC to PEOPLE, Howey will play Danny, “a wealthy business owner who Gabby (Peterman) meets at the dog park. To impress him, Gabby pretends to be Bobbie (McEntire) because she thinks it will make it more interesting…that is, until he wants to hold his holiday party at the inn.”

The cast Reba: Where are they now?

“We’re hoping that Steve’s character can come back,” Abbott added to TV Line, but noted that Howey is currently slated for just one episode. Happy’s Place.

On RebaHowey, now 47, played Reba Hart’s son-in-law, Van Montgomery, who marries his daughter Cheyenne (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) after she becomes pregnant as a teenager. The beloved series ran from 2001 to 2007 and also starred Christopher Rich, Scarlett Pomers and Mitch Holleman.

“We absolutely want to bring in some of the old cast members – and in very different roles than they’ve played Reba,” Abbott shared with TV Line. “Steve is our first, and we’re trying to figure out how to get JoAnna involved. We only want to have the old cast if we can really use them in a fun, impactful way.”

On Happy’s PlaceMcEntire, 69, plays Bobbie, who inherits her father’s titular tavern. She is surprised when she learns that she has a half-sister, whom she plays Blue Beetle star Belissa Escobedo, who is also her business partner. Peterman, 53, plays the bartender, while McEntire’s real-life boyfriend Rex Linn, 67, plays the cook at the tavern.

Meanwhile, Garcia Swisher, 45, told PEOPLE in July that she would love to appear on Happy’s Place. “I would one hundred percent participate in the show,” she said. “But more importantly, I’m just excited to go see the show because I’m really excited for all of them. It’s going to be great.”

Reba McEntire made her new sitcom theme with Carole King — four years after they last saw each other!

McEntire and Peterman spoke with PEOPLE about their new series on the Emmys red carpet in September.

“I think the chemistry we have, that dynamic, is there, so we bring it Happy’s Place” Peterman said. “We have new characters, it’s a new situation, so the chemistry is still there. That’s the same dynamic that people want to see. We talked about it, that we waited a long time, and this time seems good. It feels like we’ve been waiting for the right cast, the right time, and we’re ready.”

McEntire joked about their reunion: “When we auditioned with everyone at the front of the line, I don’t know why she was.”

Peterman told PEOPLE earlier this month that McEntire and Linn, who started dating in 2020, are “sweet” together on set. “We’re taking a five-minute break or having breakfast or lunch, and you look over and we have a bar set — it’s set at Happy’s Place — and you look over and they’re in a booth at the bar,” she said. “And it looks like they’re legitimately on a date at a restaurant, just sitting together and being so adorably cute.”

Happy’s Place premieres October 18 on NBC.
