On Twitter, some viewers complained about the lighting and said some scenes were too dark to see. One wrote: “So far so slow and confusing. I don’t know what’s going on. And another drama with a dark, dreary light,” while another added: “I am. gave up #ASpyAmongFriends Too slow With such darkness I can barely see a waste of a great cast and a great story Better with Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy .”
A third person tweeted: “Watching #ASpyAmongFriends but so much in the dark, the production is ruining the work of the top actors. At least no whispers”, while one person another just added: “Can someone turn the lights on, those #ASpyAmongFriends.”

Synopsis: “Philby is the most notorious British deserter and Soviet double agent in history. This is a story of close overlap; of loyalty, of trust. Philby’s profound personal betrayal, exposed at the height of the Cold War, led to the destruction of British and American intelligence.”
The first episode unfolds after Kim Philby escapes to Moscow, with his friend and colleague spy Nicholas Elliott being investigated by MI5.

“Did he help Philby escape because he, too, was a traitor working for the Russians, or was it just his judgment clouded at a crucial time by his twenty-three year friendship? Surname?” The synopsis of the first episode continues. “Or maybe, just maybe, he actually got the last laugh for luring Philby to defect to the KGB for foreign intelligence purposes.”
