She started dating Rohan (the son of her father’s friend) when she was in class 12. The two dated for a few years but later broke up as they could not sustain a long-distance relationship. Later, she met Indian Idol 3 contestant Parleen Gill at an army camp in Pune through a mutual friend. They became friends and soon started dating, and after dating for a few years, the couple tied the knot at a Sikh Gurdwara on Sunday, February 21, 2016. In an interview, Parleen Gill said:
I proposed in a movie style, with a bouquet in my hand, singing and getting down on one knee.”

Their marriage didn’t last long and the two later divorced. Almost four years after she and Rohan split, they met again at an alumni gathering. They became friends again and fell in love. The two had been dating for a long time and Akriti often posted pictures with Rohan on her social media accounts. Rohan worked in the Indian Merchant Navy.

After completing her postgraduate course, she started working in an advertising agency. She also worked as a part-time graphic designer and freelance photographer. Later, she started blogging part-time and her blog became very popular. She then started blogging full-time and started her own fashion blog “La Chica Loca” in 2014. Her blogging website became very popular and many well-known brands approached her to promote their products. She was the fashion ambassador of the jewelry brand Ziveg. After becoming popular as a blogger, she started her own YouTube channel “Aakriti Rana”.
