Abbott Elementary Crew Surprised Quinta Brunson with Adorable Extra Dressed as Her in Viral 2014 Video: 'IYKYK'

Quinta Brunson encountered a sweet little blast from her past while filming an episode Abbott Elementary School.

The Emmy winner, 34, posted a behind-the-scenes photo from the set of her show’s Halloween-themed episode, which airs on Wednesday, October 30. Double-costumed as her character Janine Teagues dressed as a mosquito for the holidays, she posed next to a young extra wearing a khaki jacket and clutching a box full of movie snacks, an homage to Brunson’s 2014 viral video “The Girl Who’s Never Been on a Nice Date.”

“I rarely share bts but the Abbott crew surprised/delighted me with this adorable little kid’s easter egg background costume,” she captioned her Instagram Stories post posing next to her mini-me.

“Iykyk,” Brunson added, short for “if you know you know.”

The decade-old, 15-second video shows the actress standing next to her “companion”, whose head is severed in the frame, in a line for cinema concessions. The man can be heard ordering various treats, each inquiry eliciting an impressed reaction from Brunson.

Several of the aforementioned sweet and salty snacks can be spotted in the extras’ outfits 10 years later, including Skittles, Reese’s Pieces, pretzels and jumbo popcorn, the last of which Brunson erupted in the original video.

“Big? You got fucking money! He’s got money! Take it all for him,” she exclaimed in a video with more than 2 million views on YouTube.

Brunson’s series “The Girl Who Was Never on a Nice Date” set the wheels in motion for her Hollywood career, which began when she landed her “first official acting job” on New girl 2018, as she told PEOPLE 2022.

The comedian took further steps in the HBO sketch series Black lady sketch before selling her mockumentary-style workplace comedy Abbott Elementary School on ABC. Alongside actors Tyler James Williams, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Lisa Ann Walter, Brunson leads the way as a hopelessly optimistic teacher in Philadelphia’s underfunded school system.

The series — currently in its fourth season — won four Emmys, including wins for Brunson’s writing and acting.

Abbott Elementary School airs Wednesdays at 9:30pm on ABC. The show is also available to stream on Hulu.
