Chitra started her career as a journalist at the ‘Doordarshan Centre’ in Gorakhpur. Next, she worked briefly at “ETV” and “News 24.” Later, she joined Sahara Samay as a news anchor and producer. Chitra then moved to News India as deputy editor and prime time news anchor. She hosts the channel’s flagship show “Betiyan”. While working at The News of India, Tripathi received a letter of thanks from the Indian Army for her coverage of “Hindustan Ka Mission Jai Hind”. Chitra joined “ABP News” in 2016 and gained wide recognition by hosting shows like “Kaun Jeetega 2019”, “Kaun Banega Mukhiyamantri”, “Modi Ke 4 Saal” and the weekly show “Press Conference”.
On February 11, 2019, she resigned from “ABP News” and joined the popular news channel “Aaj Tak” as deputy editor and anchor. There she hosted the show “Desh Tak”.
