In 1999, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Chaurasi in Saharanpur but lost. He ran in the 2012 parliamentary election but was ultimately defeated again. He is associated with the Republican Party of India (Athawale), a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led New Democratic Alliance. He came into the limelight after he began campaigning for Narendra Modi in Varanasi. He reportedly walked to every corner of Varanasi in 90 days.
