As Abhishek says in many of his videos, he joined an MBA program that had a great ROI, but he didn’t like it, so he dropped out of the program and started working at Groupon India. He said in an interview,
Exactly 7 years ago today, I took the metro from my office where I was interning in Gurgaon to my apartment in GTB Nagar and I had to brace myself for the fact that I might never be able to pursue an MBA in life. I took an MBA analytics program that I wasn’t interested in and I failed to take the final exam 3 times in the hope that I could transfer to a tier 1 B school that I was on the waitlist for (I took the CAT again while still in the MBA program middle). I was 23 and had failed my master’s program. I found a job working for another MBA. I’ve never done an MBA in my life, and that’s okay. Today, seven years later, I am an educator and content creator for the MBA program in India. Life is such a U-turn. If you are 23/24 and you feel like all the doors are closed to you on what you are passionate about, just know that life is a marathon not a sprint. You never know what you can achieve tomorrow. “
Abhishek recalled that the biggest mistake was that he did what he was supposed to do before he turned 23. It wasn’t until he was 23 years old that he started doing what he wanted to do, and his life changed wonderfully. After completing his MBA, Abhishek joined Capgemini in Mumbai as a Management Consultant for a period of 3 years till 2021. In 2021, he quit his consulting job to join the family business and start YouTube. In an interview, he said about this incident,
I quit my high-paying management consulting job in September 2021. I don’t have a well-structured plan for the future, but I want to give our family business at least a year. Many experts questioned this decision – I didn’t ask them (this is India for you – we are very good at opining on other people’s lives but not our own). There is no doubt that this decision could have huge consequences. “
He further talked about starting YouTube. He said,
However, a year later, I happened to start a YouTube channel out of the blue. Today, when I become an influencer in the MBA space, the first question I get asked is: How did I plan to build this YouTube channel? I answer truthfully every time – I have no plans to start a YouTube channel. Building a channel is different than making videos. I just wanted to make some videos. I happened to keep making videos because I started to enjoy it. Why I’m starting to enjoy it – This is where my September 2021 decision comes into play; I have my own time. Time for yourself. “
Abhishek really enjoys making videos and said that even if people stop watching, he will continue to make at least 2 videos every week. Abhishek is a fan of Harsha Bhogle. He also graduated from IIM and always wanted to leave his mark in the creative field like Harsha. Abhishek hails from a small place called Kishanganj, where his first 120 YouTube videos were shot. He set up a small studio on the top floor of his home, where he shot three videos every Sunday. For the remaining six days, he contributed to the family textile business located on the first floor of his home. Currently, Abhishek has joined a start-up company as the head of YouTube. Although Abhishek manages YouTube full time, he has amassed 58,000 subscribers in just one year.
He subsequently lived in 8 more cities, including all the metropolitan cities in India. Abhishek even dropped out of an MBA college in Delhi to join his first company, Groupon, which he considers to be the best decision of his life. Later he joined IIM Visakhapatnam and became a member of the Placement Committee. Most of Abhishek’s videos give viewers a realistic look at life in B-school as well as life outside of school. Prior to joining YouTube, Abhishek worked in the corporate world for 5 years. He studied in the best institutions in India – DPS RK Puram, New Delhi and St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

- As a child, Abhishek was always a bright student. In school, he was always ranked among the top three in his class. His mother would be very disappointed when he rarely finished fourth, as she herself had been an achiever her entire life. Because of his mother’s love, Abhishek topped his class for many years. At the age of 15, he left his hometown Kishanganj to study at DPS RK Puram Delhi. He subsequently completed his bachelor’s degree in marketing from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata. In 2016, he received his MBA degree from IIM Visakhapatnam. In an interview, talking about his school and university, he said:
While in school, I was always ranked in the top 3 of my class (out of over 150 students) for 10 consecutive years. Occasionally I would get fourth place and my mother would burst into tears and later she would tell me that a train has three classes for a reason and fourth place didn’t exist for her. For the love of my mother, I have excelled in school for ten consecutive years. However, once I left home, the definition of freedom also meant that I could achieve any rank in my class. Freedom means not learning. That’s one of the reasons why I’m ranked last at St. Xavier’s University. However I soon realized the attention I craved in school. I lost my identity. So, when I was doing my MBA at IIM Visakhapatnam, I did everything I could – be a part of Placecom, participate in B-School competitions, act as moderator/emcee at B-School festivals, teach marketing and OB courses to my peers , get multiple job opportunities. I didn’t reach the summit, but I never wanted to. I did what I really wanted to do and still had a great reputation in college. I wish I could do more of this in school. I think as people get older they become more like the way they were always supposed to be. The sooner we do it, the happier we will be! “
