Minal Modi was born on September 9, 1954 in Nigeria, Africa, as Minal Aswani (he died at the age of 64). Her first husband was Jack Sagrani, an ambitious professional who worked first in Nigeria, then London, and later settled in Saudi Arabia. While she was pregnant with Sagrani’s child, his name surfaced in a scam. He was sentenced to seven months in prison in Saudi Arabia. After his arrest, she gave birth to daughter Karima in London. She moved to Delhi, India, from the Gulf countries in the late 1980s. While in Delhi, she became good friends with Lalit Modi’s mother Bina Modi. As Meena often visited Modi’s official residence, she and Lalit got closer and decided to tie the knot. But, it wasn’t a walk in the park for the couple; Because she was separated from her husband and almost 10 years older than Lalit. After some family drama, the couple married on October 17, 1991.

After their marriage, the couple moved to Mumbai. Lalit tried various businesses there but failed to taste any success. Thereafter, the duo moved to Rajasthan where their wheel of fortune turned. When they got in touch with the then chief minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje. It was Raj who allegedly helped them establish virtual authority in the Rajasthan government.

During Raj’s tenure, Modi’s husband’s real estate business flourished. Moreover, her husband reached the pinnacle of his career while serving as the IPL president. But Meenal and Lalit’s fairy tale was derailed in 2010, when he was suspended on suspicion of money laundering. Soon after, the couple left India and settled in London, where she died after a years-long battle with cancer.

Minal was born into a Sindhi-Indian business class family. Her father, Pesu Aswani, is a well-known Nigerian businessman, while her mother, Indra Aswani, is a housewife. She has a younger sister, Priya Aswani, an alumna of the prestigious Inchbold School of Design in London.

Her first husband was Jack Sagrani, a Saudi Arabian high-altitude flying professional. After Sagrani was imprisoned, she separated from him and later married Indian businessman Lalit Modi.

She breathed her last on December 10, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. Her husband announced her death on social media.

Meenal Modi is allegedly behind the controversy between her husband Lalit Modi and Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Sushma is accused of favoring alleged money laundering ringleader Lalit to obtain a Portuguese visa; so that Lalit could be with his wife Minal.
