Academic Loan Bank: While addressing the West Zone Vice-Chancellor’s Conference at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairperson Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that more than two million students across the country have registered for the UGC’s Academic Bank of Credit (ABC).

ABC was one of the provisions of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). The ABC portal promotes flexibility of curriculum framework and interdisciplinary/disciplinary academic mobility of students among Indian HEIs (HEls) through appropriate credit transfer method.

Implementation of reforms introduced by UGC

“In the last few years, the UGC has introduced several reforms. Today, more than two million students have registered on the ABC platform, but this is not enough because it is important that all students are registered on the platform and you upload all the credentials and credit certificates of the students on the ABC platform,” Kumar said while addressing the vice-chancellors.

The Academic Credit Bank is a digital repository of every student’s credit records, and it was introduced as part of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The ABC Academic Bank of Credits enables students to have seamless access to their results and facilitates the transition from university or college to other institutions. By June, UGC recorded one million registrations on the ABC platform. From 2023, a unique ABC ID has become mandatory for all students to enroll in universities across the country.
