Adele Raves Over Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso' Hit: 'That Song Is My Jam!'

Adele has nothing but rave reviews for Sabrina Carpenter!

In a video captured by fans of the British singer while she was performing at her Las Vegas residency, Adele took a moment to reflect on one of her new favorite songs – and how she coped with taking a break from performing due to her lack of voice.

During a break in her performance on Saturday, May 18, Adele, 36, spoke directly to the crowd at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace about how returning to the Las Vegas time zone after her hiatus has affected her body in some pretty interesting ways.

“I almost pissed myself because my whole body clock was out of sync,” she told the audience, to much laughter. “So, being on stage at 11:30, I was desperate to pee. But I always, you know, [going] back to the hotel, to the hotel, whatever, until, somehow, no later than 11:10. And then I have to warm up my voice, then I take a steam shower and things like that.”

“When I went to bed last night — ’cause it’s really late for me, I’m usually in bed by 9 p.m. — I caught myself singing, ‘Working late, ’cause I’m a singer,’ ” she continued, singing the words to the song “Espresso,” which topped the charts.” “That Sabrina Carpenter song! ‘I can’t relate to despair.’ That song is my jam!”

The “Easy on Me” singer received high praise for “Espresso” — which Carpenter performed Saturday night live the same night Adele discussed it on stage – and also joked that it was released when she was on vocal leave, meaning she couldn’t sing along to it on the radio.

“It came out and I couldn’t speak!” Adele recalled to the audience. “It came out when I couldn’t talk or sing, so since my voice came back, I’ve been singing it all last night and this morning.”

Before returning to her performance, the singer joked that she would rather sleep late than “work late” – a play on Carpenter’s lyrics.

“From tomorrow it’s going to be like, ‘I’m sleeping late ’cause I’m a singer,’ because that’s what I’m going to do tomorrow,” she said.

Adele is wrapping up her final set of dates at the Colosseum and will officially conclude her Weekends With Adele residency on June 15. She began performing back in November 2022 and has taken several short-term breaks — including taking a vocal sabbatical in February 2024. At the time, she told fans she had gotten sick and needed to rest her voice in order to complete her residency schedule.

“I love you, I’ll miss you like crazy and I’m sorry for the inconvenience,” she wrote in an Instagram post at the time, apologizing to fans.

Carpenter made it in the meantime SNL debut on May 18 for the season 49 finale alongside host Jake Gyllenhaal.

During her first performance, Carpenter sang “Espresso,” which hit the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month — in a bar-themed set. For her second performance, she performed a medley of her songs “Feather” and “Nonsense” and celebrated her first time on the show with her traditional change of lyrics.
