Adesh Kumar Gupta was born on Wednesday, January 26, 1969 (51 years old in 2020) in Uttar Pradesh. After completing his B.Sc. in Uttar Pradesh, Adesh Kumar Gupta moved to Delhi in search of a job. When he could not find a job, Adesh started tutoring to make ends meet. After teaching for two years, Adesh started a product distribution business, however, that did not help him either. Adesh then returned to teaching, during which he also registered himself with the Public Works Department. Thereafter, he started getting government and private contracts and thus built a strong base in the construction and maintenance business.

Political career

During his business days, Adesh developed an interest in politics and became an active member of the student party All India Students’ Union (ABVP). In 1994-95, he served as the Uttar Pradesh state chief of the ABVP. Adesh Kumar is the current councillor of West Patel Nagar (Ward 98) of the North Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and was previously the North Delhi Mayor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). On June 2, 2020, the BJP appointed him as the Mayor of Delhi, replacing former BJP president Manoj Tiwari.

On June 7, 2020, Adesh Kumar Gupta and some BJP members publicly protested against the Delhi government’s decision to make Delhi government and private hospitals available only to Delhi residents. Adesh Kumar Gupta was found violating lockdown and social distancing norms, following which the Delhi Police detained him, but he was later released.
