Admission for TNEA 2023 ends

Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) 2023 admission process ends in August with more than 50000 seats available. According to reports, a total of 50,514 vacancies out of a total of 1,44,652 vacancies for admission to 442 engineering faculties. This year, more places were filled than in the past five years: 65.08% of them were filled. Last year, only 59.90% of seats were occupied.

However, to fill up more seats in engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, the Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE), Tamil Nadu is conducting additional counseling for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) from today only for those candidates who have studied in government schools .

TNEA Engineering Admission 2023: Only 16 colleges managed to fill their seats

According to reports, this year only 16 faculties managed to completely fill all their seats at the end of academic counseling, which is relatively more than last year. On the other hand, a total of 11 faculties could not fill a single place this year, while 14 faculties had zero enrollment in 2022.

This year, a total of 68 faculties filled more than 95% of places, while 104 faculties had over 90% enrollment. Additionally, 186 faculties filled more than 80% of their places, and 263 faculties managed to fill more than 50% of the available places. However, the three government colleges that witnessed less than 50% admissions are University College of Engineering in Dindigul, Ariyalur and Nagapattinam.

In terms of courses, many candidates opted for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Information Technology. These courses accounted for almost 45% of the total enrollment. On the other hand, among the basic engineering branches, mechanical and civil engineering were less preferred options. This year’s overall admission rate is relatively better in various branches of engineering as compared to last year.

TNEA Engineering Admission 2023: More than 2 lakh seats are available in 442 engineering colleges

According to the data released by the government, a total of 2,19,346 engineering posts have been approved in 442 colleges in the state. Among them, 1,60,780 seats have been allotted for the one-stop counseling process, with 1,48,721 seats reserved for the general category and an additional 12,059 seats for government school candidates under the 7.5% reservation policy.

Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu conducts TNEA every year. It is a Unified Single Window Admission System for Indian Nationals only. The courses offered through this online counseling are BE/BTech and BE (Sandwich). Candidates who want to take admission in State and Government Engineering Colleges, University Departments and Constituent Colleges of Anna University, Annamalai University and for posts taught by Self-financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu must apply for TNEA Counselling.
