The butt plate was 1 cm below the allowed level and for this technical reason I was suspended. I had to start from scratch, competing at the state level, then national preliminaries, then nationals. That was the toughest time. When I was selected for the MP Shooting Academy trials, I knew I would have to be away from my family. It was difficult at first, but I made a point of visiting the village during the festival. I also made a special trip to attend the Navgrah Expo. “
Speaking about Aishwari in an interview, his coach Vaibhav said:
He came to the academy in 2015. He attended a summer camp in Bhopal. He was inspired by his brother, himself a goalscorer. He began basic training in 2015. He started in the 10m and then we saw him progress and perform well and he started doing the 50m as well. If you watch him live, when he gets the medal, he has zero reaction, no expression on his face because that’s just who he is. That’s why he does so well. He was calm, happy, but not moved by success. He loves this sport. “
Aishwari has participated in various shooting competitions at national and international levels such as ISSF World Cup and Olympic Games. He has won many medals for India in the 10m air rifle and 50m air rifle event events at junior and senior levels. In 2021, he ranked second in the ISSF shooting rankings. He trained under several shooting coaches, including his personal trainer Vaibhav Sharma and his national coach Suma Shirur.
He has represented India in air rifle events such as AR60, FR3X40, R3X40MIX and ARTEAMM. In 2021, he qualified for the Olympics to represent India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The event was postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Facts/Trivia
- In an interview, when he was asked what inspired him to start shooting professionally, he replied:
I was inspired to join the shoot by my cousin Navdeep Singh Rathod. They are also shooters. He was admitted to the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy. I’ve been practicing there since 2015. I made the national team my first year, but I was disqualified. Then I had to wait a year for the Nationals. Won national title in 2016. 2017-18 wasn’t much better for me. In 2019, youth team selections were held. Set records and won gold medals at the World Cup. Then made it to the top five in the senior category. “
- His father had a keen interest in shooting since childhood, but he was unable to pursue it as a career. In an interview, his father said the same thing:
As a landlord (owning 50 acres of land), I own more than three guns and we used to go hunting when Aishwari was young. When I was young, no one told me to enter shooting competitions. But now I see Aishwari grow into a junior world champion and it feels like I have become a world champion too. “
- In 2019, he received the Eklavya Award from the Madhya Pradesh government for his achievements in shooting.
- Talking about Aishwari in an interview, his national team coach Souma Shirul said:
Aishwari’s greatest strength is his focus, which helped me guide him when I joined the academy. We’ll work a lot on his fundamentals and he’s always shown a desire to play in all three competitions, which is good for a young striker. 3P requires a lot of physical strength because it lasts for more than three hours. But Aishwari won’t hesitate to train extra for the event. “
- In his spare time, Aishwari enjoys cycling and playing cricket.
- In an interview, he shared how he was preparing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics during the lockdown. He said,
I practice at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy. During the lockdown, I came home and focused on fitness with the help of Manav Rachna Academy. I don’t even have bullets or a rifle. The rifle was given to me by Yashodhara Raje Scindia, the state sports minister, as a result of special permission. I did dry training. As soon as things normalized after the lockdown and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) got permission to train, I came to the academy and started training. It should be no problem to prepare for the World Cup and Olympics, so I also ordered new equipment. “
- Aishwari said in an interview that people used to make fun of his name in the early days. He said,
I am often called Aishwarya Rai and today it is Akshay Kumar! Pata nahi kya chal raha hai! I had to show them my shooter’s ID card, wahan bhi naam galat tha! Thankfully, this is all behind us. “
