Akash Singh

Akash Singh is a young Indian cricketer from Rajasthan. He was a member of the Indian U-19 cricket team which lost to Bangladesh in the final of the ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2020. The left-arm medium-fast bowler is known for his deadly inspin.

Akash Singh was born on Friday, April 26, 2002 (19 years old in 2021) in the village of Nagla Ram Ratan in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan. His full name is Akash Maharaj Singh. His star sign is Taurus. Akash developed an interest in cricket during his childhood. He started playing professional cricket in 2012 after attending the Shardul Sports School in Bikaner. In 2014, he moved to Jaipur to take cricket coaching from Vivek Yadav, the coach of the Aravalli Cricket Club in the city.

While growing up, he spent most of his time playing cricket. His love for the sport was so intense that he could not balance between cricket and his studies. As a result, he failed four consecutive board examinations in class 10. The red line on the report card did not hinder his future as he passed the cricket exams with flying colours.

Akash first came to the limelight at the age of 15 in November 2017 when he took all 10 wickets in four innings in an open T20 match in Jaipur, defeating the entire opposition team. Most notably, he did not concede a single run in his delivery.

One of the highlights of his career was his inclusion in India’s squad for the 2020 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup in December 2019. He took seven wickets in six matches at an average of just 3.81, with impressive performances against Bangladesh, Kuwait and Australia (3/30 in the quarter-final).

Considering his previous performance, Rajasthan Royals bought him for a base price of Rs 20 lakh at the player auction ahead of the Indian Premier League 2020. However, the speedster did not play in any matches.

On December 19, 2023, at the 2024 IPL auction held at the Coca-Cola Stadium in Dubai, Akash Singh was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20 lakh.

Soon after India lost to Bangladesh in the final of the 2020 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup, several players from both teams got into an ugly brawl on the field. Akash Singh, Ravi Bishnoi and three other Bangladeshi players were found guilty of affray. He was charged with violating Article 2.21 of the ICC Code of Conduct. As a result, he was sentenced to an eight-match ban, equivalent to six deduction points. The deduction points will remain for two years.

Akash is very focused on his health and fitness. In a 2019 interview, he revealed that he never eats junk food.
