Akshaye was born on March 28, 1975, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India (48 years old; as of 2023). He attended Lawrence School in Lovedale, Tamil Nadu. After completing his studies, he attended and graduated from Human Resources Institute of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai.
He studied acting at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy in Mumbai. After honing his acting skills, he made his debut in the Bollywood industry with the film Himalayan Putra (1997), opposite Anjala Zaveri. The film is produced by his father Vinod Khanna.
