Al Franken was born in New York, USA, to Joseph and Phoebe Franken. His parents were well off and lived a happy life; his mother was a real estate agent and his father a printing press salesman. While his mother’s grandfather came from Grodno (Russian Empire) before moving to the United States, his father’s grandfather came from Germany.
Al Franken attended Blake School after moving twice. In 1969, he graduated from the same high school. While in school, Al Franken and his friend Tom Davis were known for performing comedy spots. He was also a member of his school’s wrestling team. After graduation, he went to Harvard College. After graduating there, he earned a degree in political science. Al Franken also has an older brother, photojournalist Owen Franken.

At first, Al Franken was hired as a writer and worked as an occasional performer. He got that role in collaboration with his high school friend, Tom Davis, with whom he made an unofficial alliance. They collaborated on a number of projects, including minor roles in the film.
Individually, Al Franken worked as a host and appeared on several other shows. After the series, Al Franken moved on to writing screenplays for movies, although the first one was difficult for him.
