Al Roker Says He’s ‘Very Excited’ for His First Christmas as a Grandparent (Exclusive)

Al Roker is looking forward to his first Christmas as a grandparent.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at Tuesday’s Root 100 Gala in New York City, Roker and his wife Deborah Roberts revealed their holiday plans with granddaughter Sky Clara Laga, 6 months, and her mom and dad Courtney Roker and Wesley Laga.

“You know, here’s a new grandson. So that’s kind of exciting,” Roker, 69, tells PEOPLE at The Apollo Theater. “It’s going to be a different kind of Christmas. So very excited.”

“I think for us it’s really just family,” Deborah adds of the family’s Christmas plans. “It really is all in the family and our family is so spread out that we don’t get to get together as much as we would like over the years. So this year it’s really just closely related.”

And then holding this little girl, knowing that almost 35 years ago I held by her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long, and she’s just perfect.”
