Alanis Morissette’s 3 Children: All About Ever, Onyx and Winter

Alanis Morissette and her husband, Mario “Souleye” Treadway, are the proud parents of three children: sons Ever Imra and Winter Mercy, and daughter Onyx Solace.

The “Ironic” singer and Treadway began dating in 2009 and tied the knot at their Los Angeles home in May 2010.

They started their family shortly after when they welcomed their first child, son Ever, in December 2010, followed by daughter Onyx in June 2016. Morissette and Treadway’s third child, Winter, joined the family in August 2019.

Morissette posed for the cover Health in May 2020 while breastfeeding Winter and opened up about her obsession with motherhood. “I love moms very much. If I talk about it too much, I’ll start crying,” she admitted. “I just think moms are so selfless day in and day out — women just kill it all the time.”

Ever, Onyx and Winter are also already fans of their mom’s music. During an appearance on Audacy’s K-EARTH 101 in October 2022, Morissette said, “They [listen], even when I say ‘turn it off!’ They are so cute.”

Morissette and Treadway welcomed their first son, Ever, on December 25, 2010. The new mom announced his birth on X (formerly Twitter), writing that she was “overwhelmed and so grateful” and “so in love with my new nuclear family”.

In 2015, when Ever was 4 years old, A jagged little pill singer told PEOPLE that the mother-son duo already had a deep connection with each other and the world. “We’re having real bona fide philosophical conversations about the galaxy, animals, what God is,” she said.

Morissette has been open about how she and Treadway practice “unschooling” with their children, starting with their oldest, Ever. The Weeds said actress Katie Lowes in her podcast Crib Katie 2020 that she and Treadway are “loosely referencing” ideas ranging from music to spatial awareness to interpersonal intelligence for teaching Ever.

“When Ever sometimes says to me: ‘Mom, what if I want to get a doctorate?’ or whatever, I just say, ‘Yeah, whenever you want to go to school, you’re going to go to school. And if you just want to continue learning outside of that context, then you will,'” she shared. “For example, if Ever wakes up in the middle of the night and asks me a question, I’m not going to freak him out, because this is the time he’s going to learn about that dinosaur.”

One of Ever’s favorite places is the beach. In December 2020, Morissette took to Instagram to share a picture of Ever jumping down the sand dunes on his 10th birthday. Later, in April 2022, Treadway shared a selfie with Ever on the beach.

He also likes to hit the recording studio with his dad, who shared a selfie of the two on Instagram wearing headphones and standing in front of a microphone in February 2022.

Morissette and Treadway welcomed their daughter Onyx on June 23, 2016. Morissette shared the news on Instagram, writing, “She’s here!” and “#beyondblessed.”

In his interview with Health, Morissette talked about her educational process with Onyx. “Unschooling, for me, is education led by children. So if … my daughter is like … ‘I want to put glitter on that thing’ … boom—we do it,” she said. “I basically get into their eyeballs. I’m constantly looking at their eyes and what they’re drawn to, and then we take a deep dive.”

Morissette gave a shout-out to Onyx in an Instagram post for International Women’s Day in March 2021, and later that year Onyx joined her mom on stage. In a sweet moment, Onyx, Ever and their dad stood with Morissette under falling confetti to mark the end of her tour.

Onyx loves animals and even raised chickens with her dad. In November 2023, Treadway wrote on Instagram: “Ever since Onyx was a baby, her love for animals ran deep.” A year earlier, in May 2022, Treadway took to the social media platform to share more about his hobby of keeping chickens. “And just like having Chickens such a fun bonding experience with my daughter Onyx,” he captioned the pictures.

In June 2022, Morissette celebrated Onyx’s 6th birthday with a tribute posted on Instagram. The mother of three called her middle child an “animal whisperer” and wrote, “happy birthday to my absolute dream girl daughter onyx… you are everything I’ve asked for multiplied by a million.”

Morissette and Treadway’s third child, Winter, was born on August 8, 2019. The singer announced the news of Winter’s birth on Instagram a few days later.

The “Hand in My Pocket” singer opened up about practicing attachment parenting with Winter when he was a child. “To me, attachment parenting, on a very basic level, is eye contact, skin to skin, sensitivity, tenderness,” the doting mom said in a 2020 episode. Crib Katie podcast.

“The word ‘alignment’ is [important] in parenting … If we’re not in tune with each other and miss each other like passing ships, there’s no chance for that deep connection that will be the bedrock for their entire lives,” she continued.

Like his siblings, Winter loves to be outside. In October 2022, Treadway shared a sweet picture of Winter dancing on the beach. “dancer in the sand!” he wrote the picture.

Zima also likes to go on walks and hikes with her dad. In February 2021, Morissette shared a picture on Instagram of Winter backpacking on a hike with Treadway and big brother Ever, and in July 2022, Treadway shared a selfie of him and Winter on a walk.
