Alexandra Paul (1991-2023) was a Canadian competitive ice dancer. She performed alongside her skating partner and eventual husband, Mitchell Islam. Together they won a silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships. During their adult careers, Paul and Islam won bronze medals at the 2013 Nibelhorn Cup and have won bronze medals at the Canadian National Championships three times (2011, 2014 and 2015). They also represented the country at the 2014 Winter Olympics. In 2021, she began practicing as a solicitor at Barriston Law in Barrie. On August 22, 2023, Paul was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in the rural Ontario town of Melancthon.

During the 2008-09 figure skating season, Alexandra Paul and partner Jason Cheperdak finished fourth at the ISU Junior Grand Prix in Spain and ISU in England Finished sixth at the Junior Grand Prix. After Paul and Chepperdak finished third at the 2009 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, she began looking for a new partner. Meanwhile, Canadian junior silver medalist and junior world player Mitchell Islam is also looking for one. Interestingly, both men trained at the Mariposa Skate School in Barrie, Ontario. In January 2009, they had a successful trial and immediately began preparations for the Minto Summer Skating Competition in late July. They overtook the defending Canadian junior champions in the free dance competition and eventually won the competition overall. The victory earned them a place on the Junior Grand Prix circuit. They competed in two events at the 2009-10 ISU Junior Grand Prix. They finished fourth in their first mission in Poland and fifth in their second mission in Turkey a month later. At the 2010 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, Paul and Islam won first place in ice dance, and were subsequently assigned to the 2010 World Junior Figure Skating Championships, where they won a silver medal.

Their coaching team includes Islam’s father David, 2001 Canadian Junior Ice Dance Champion Tyler Miles, former Junior World Medalist Kelly Johnson and former World Champion Pavor Pollack. The two were promoted to the senior team in the 2010-2011 season. At the 2010 Canadian International Skate Competition, they finished second in the free dance and fourth overall. Paul suffered a rib injury during the short dance, forcing them to withdraw from their second assignment, the 2010 Russian Cup in Moscow. Paul and Islam finished third in their senior debut at the 2011 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, and they finished eighth at the 2011 US Skating Championships. They finished seventh in the short dance competition and withdrew ahead of the 2011 NHK Cup free dance competition as Paolo fought Italy’s Lorenza Alessandrini/Simone Vaturi collided and was cut on the back of his thigh. In June 2012, Paul and Islam began training at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They did not compete in the Grand Prix in 2012 and finished fourth at the 2013 Canadian Figure Skating Championships. Paul and Islam started the next season with a bronze medal in the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy. They finished fifth at the 2013 Canadian International Skating Games. After winning bronze at the 2014 Canadian Championships, they were selected to represent Canada at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where they finished 18th.

At the 2015 World Championships in Shanghai, China, Paul and Islam finished eighth in the short dance, fourteenth in the free dance, and ultimately thirteenth in the overall standings. Afterwards, they decided to change coaches and became part of the coaching team at the Cadebois Center in Montreal, Quebec, led by Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon and Romain Agnol. In the summer of 2016, Paul suffered a hamstring injury. Paul and Islam won bronze medals at the 2016 CS USA International Classic.

However, on November 18, at the 2016 China Cup, Paul fell during morning practice and injured his knee. Therefore, the two withdrew from the competition before the short dance competition. They announced their retirement on December 15, 2016. From 2017 to 2021, she served as a figure skating coach at the Bari Mariposa Skating School.

In September 2020, she joined Barriston Law as an essay student and worked in this capacity for nine months. In May 2021, Paul became an Associate Attorney at Barriston Law, specializing in Wills, Estates, Estate and Corporate Law.

On August 22, 2023, Paul was killed when her car was hit by a transport truck in the Canadian town of Melancton, north of Shelburne. She was in the car with her baby boy after the crash, which was taken to Children’s Hospital for non-life-threatening treatment.
