In 2010, while he was in the Bigg Boss house, he married Indian actor Sara Khan. Their marriage became the talk of the town as he was one of the few Indian actors to get married on a reality TV show. Sara and Ali were reportedly paid Rs. Colors received $5 million for getting married on national television. Their marriage did not last long, and the couple divorced less than two months after their marriage. In 2011, when Ali was invited to be a guest on the Star Plus TV show Sach Ka Saamna, his marriage to Sara was questioned. He replied,

In an interview, when Sara was asked about her divorce from Ali, she said:
Even before Bigg Boss, I had been doing daily soaps which made me popular and landed me in reality shows. Also, I married Ali because I loved him, not for money or to get some cheap publicity as many people say. My marriage turned into a nightmare. I was deeply hurt by his behavior. I gave him a thousand chances before I called off the relationship. But now that we are apart, I believe this: everything that happens will happen forever. I don’t want to look back. I hope to look to the future and do better than before. “
On January 29, 2016, he married Indian investment banker Anam Merchant. Ali said of his marriage in an interview:
Since she is not an industry insider, there is no pomp and show. We will have the party on January 27th, the nikaah on the 29th, and the reception on the 30th. I feel as though I am starting a new chapter in my life. I hope 2016 is a great year for me – both professionally and personally. We’ve been together for four or five years. I think our philosophies on life don’t match. Our thought processes didn’t match. She is an amazing girl and she recognizes that I am a good person. See, my lifestyle has changed. DJs brought nightlife into my life, where alcohol was everywhere. Those live shows wouldn’t get me home in time. During the day, she is at work. We don’t have enough time together. But what can I do? I had just resumed my career. “

When two people fall in love, the next step is to get married. We were together for two years before the show. She lives with me in my house. After the eldest son came out of the house, he discovered that there were many conflicts between our family. I’m so angry about it all. I do not know what to do. “
He continued,
Even in the Bigg Boss house, I see a connection between Sara and Ashmit. Then I went to Delhi. I was in a club where I was bewildered. I met a girl. We talked on the phone. I was shocked and deeply regretful. I wanted to tell Sarah this. She was on the show at the time. The girl I met was in contact with Sarah’s uncle and he told them everything. Everything comes from the media. Before I could do damage control, everything fell apart. It was only then that we decided to go our separate ways. Ali Merchant also said that even after the separation, Sara wanted to meet him, but by then other girls had entered his life and he wanted to move on.
