His history and career as a player and manager
Cisse was born in the Senegalese city of Ziguinchor. He went to Paris when he was nine years old and dreamed of playing for Paris Saint-Germain. When he went out, he was French, but when he was at home, he was a true Senegalese, according to Cisse. He attended Princes’ Park as a kid and witnessed famous players like Safet Sušić and Valda. Aliou began training aged 14 at Lille before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 1998. He led the Senegal national team to the quarter-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Cisse took over as head coach of the Senegal national team in 2015 and led the team to qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, although the team was eliminated in the group stage of the tournament. In addition, he led the team to its first ever final at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in 2002. In an interview with the New York Times, Cisse said that being a national team coach is like being a politician and feeling the pressures on the country on a daily basis. It’s about learning the economy, culture and history of your country, he continued.
Cisse led Senegal to Africa Cup of Nations triumph on 22 February 2022, the same victory he missed as a player on penalties 20 years earlier. He is the first Senegalese captain to reach the final of the African Cup of Nations and the first Senegalese coach to win the championship in 2022. Cisse spoke about his career as a player and coach and how he tried to lead by example.
Cisse reacted angrily to Jurgen Klopp’s AFCON statement
He was unhappy with Jurgen Klopp’s statement for AFCON. Klopp described the competition in November 2021 as a “little tournament”. Cisse reacted angrily to Klopp’s remarks, asking what he (Klopp) thought of himself. He is the manager of Senegal and several of his players play for Klopp at Liverpool. Aliou also said he respects Liverpool but not Klopp, who is undermining African football tournaments.
He also said that Klopp is in this position thanks to African footballers and that he was losing every final until the likes of Salah, Mane and Matip came to his rescue and helped him win his first major European final. Klopp then officially apologized for his remark.
Cisse suffered from emotional trauma.
Cisse lost 11 members of his family in the 2002 MV Le Joola disaster, considered the second deadliest non-military accident in nautical history. Besides Senegal, it killed 1,863 people from at least 11 other nations. Cisse took part in the humanitarian match between Senegal and Nigeria in memory of the dead. They collected funds for the relatives of the victims.
What about his girlfriends and previous relationships?
Cisse is a rather closed guy, but he is now married. It is not clear if he has already dated anyone or about his previous relationships. Cisse has kept his personal life private, although he has a wife and two beautiful children, a boy and a daughter. It is not known when their wedding took place. During a rare interview about his family, he revealed that he is married to a Burundian woman and has wonderful children, and that he no longer has an incredible narrative with women.
He continued,
“But please understand that I love Senegalese women, but God did it.” “I am married to a woman from Burundi.”
