Rant screen: good nurse How do you feel about the world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival? are you excited
Alix West Lefler: I’m glad the film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. It premiered in Canada, my home country, and I’m so glad it got out because I really wanted other people to see it.
You’re young and dealing with the heavy subject matter of this movie. How was your experience on set?
Alix West Lefler: This is a pretty heavy topic. But honestly, I did most of the scenes with Eddie and Jessica, which made my experience a lot easier. In most scenes, I only see the kind, funny, and wonderful side of Charlie, and I don’t know about the crimes he committed in the hospital. My experience with Jessica and Eddie made it even better.
How long did it take you to shoot all the scenes?
Alix West Lefler: It took two months to shoot everything, but we had a month’s break in between. They asked if I wanted to stay in Connecticut or go home, so we stayed and I asked Netflix if I could take my dad to Connecticut. They said yes, my dad came out.
You just touched on this, but Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne are famous actors. Do you enjoy working with them?
Alix West Lefler: It was a great experience! Jessica and Eddie are lovely and caring people. In fact, Jessica invited us on a picnic before we even started filming. She brought blankets, cookies, snacks, bread, water, and it was fun. The day we started filming, the first time I saw Eddie on set, I was really shaken. My mom told them I was shaking after filming that scene and Jessica said she didn’t even realize how professional I was. [laughs].
Of all the movies and TV shows you’ve done, is there a favorite character? Or is it something you really enjoy doing?
Alix West Lefler: Well, I can’t say I have a favorite because they are all my favorites. I love them for many different reasons, but the Siren was a great experience. First, I must be a mermaid. Second, I have to work on land and work in water. With the spear in hand, I had to open my eyes wide in the water. It’s been a pleasure working with all the free divers.
If you could play any character in any show or movie, who would it be?
Alix West Lefler: I love this question! If I could play one character, it would be Ryan Leno’s daughter. I love him. The TV show or movie should probably be Stranger Things.
Finally, you’re shooting a new Netflix movie —my life with boy walter. Do you have something to say about your character?
Alix West Lefler: Actually, we just finished My Life with the Walter Boys. It is wrapped only in the summer. I play Parker Walter, a tomboy who is a bit stingy. I love playing those tomboys so I can play all different sports.
