All About Alex Guarnaschelli's Daughter Ava Clark

Alex Guarnaschelli’s daughter, Ava Clark, is following in her mother’s culinary footsteps.

The Alexa’s day off the host welcomed her daughter in 2007 with her ex-husband, attorney Brandon Clark. Guarnaschelli has been open about the pressures of being a single mother – especially when it comes to her child’s well-being.

“Ava had a very high fever and was small,” Guarnaschelli said Hey! News 2020 “I was just standing in my apartment asking myself… ‘How can I win here? How can I be a better parent?’ ”

From an early age, Guarnaschelli wanted to make sure Ava was taught strong values ​​and steered in the right direction. She did it in a creative way, using her favorite childhood movies — Beauty and the Beast, Ratatouille and Wizard of Oz — as metaphors.

“I found Beauty and the Beast very useful, like beauty from the inside? Outside? What does it look like?” said Guarnaschelli. “For cooking and food, Ratatouille and the idea that if you work hard at something and practice, even if you’re a rat or don’t look the part, you can do anything.”

The celebrity chef said seeking out these lessons helped her be present with Ava. “I find the good in every day with her. I look for it,” she explained.

In 2023, to celebrate Ava’s 16th birthday, Guarnaschelli shared a sweet tribute to her daughter on Instagram with a throwback photo. In the picture, Ava is leaning against a colorful pillar that says “artwork in progress.”

“I took this picture 6-7 years ago in Venice Beach. You are truly a ‘work in progress,’ and I’ve loved watching you grow up every day,” the Food Network host wrote. “You just make my life worth it, kid.”

She added: “You’re 16 today and you continue to amaze me every day. Happy birthday Ava.”

He likes to cook

Ava followed in her mother’s footsteps from an early age and enjoys working in the kitchen.

“She’s a really, really, fundamentally good cook. And she got there really on her own,” Guarnaschelli said Hey! News Ave 2020. “Like, people will say to me, ‘How do I get my kids to cook?’ And I just say, ‘If you’re just in there doing it and they’re watching you, they’re going to get into it.’ ”

Whether Ava will pursue a career in cooking is still to be determined. “She changes professions once a month these days,” Guarnaschelli joked.

In 2023, Ava and her mom published their first co-authored cookbook, Cook. Guarnaschelli announced the book in March of that year with a post on Instagram, sharing the cover design.

“My daughter @avasimclark is 15 and even though she thinks I’m annoying at times, she agreed to write a cookbook with me!!!!!” she wrote in the description.

In October 2023, Ava and Guarnaschelli shared a recipe for onion garlic bread with “great texture” and “extra flavor” from their cookbook.

“Cloves are naturally sweet, so they balance out the bitterness of the garlic beautifully,” Clark said. “Plus, shallot rings add great texture.”

She has a dog

Ava adopted a tiny Australian Shepherd in March 2022 — Guarnaschelli revealed in an Instagram post that her daughter named the pup León Duval Le Chiffre Guarnaschelli.

“Such a good boy,” Iron Chef America alum wrote in the caption. “We are not worthy.”

León also has his own Instagram account with almost 14,000 followers.

“My name is León aka “DELELE” (duh-le-Le),” the account bio reads. “Welcome to life through my eyes.”

Her mom’s packed lunches helped her get back to school

When Ava was younger, the transition from summer vacation to the school year was sometimes difficult, but her mom’s cooking skills helped her bounce back.

“Right now, my daughter seems to be vacillating between wanting to see her friends again and wanting to never see another math equation as long as she lives,” Guarnaschelli told PEOPLE in 2015. “I get it — I remember that pit in my stomach when I was walking to school that first day.”

To make the school day a little nicer, she cooked several delicious meals for her daughter, including homemade pizzas.

“I used whole wheat pita bread as a pizza base, filling the pocket with delicious mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce,” she said. “Those two lunches went well.”

Ava is mom’s biggest fan and celebrates everything she has accomplished in her career. At the 2023 South Beach Wine & Food Festival, the teenager paid tribute to her mother with a heartfelt speech.

“We’re gathered here tonight to celebrate who people see as Alex and who I really only see as mom,” she said. “I’ve always been proud of my mom because I know deep down that my mom is such a dedicated person to whatever she does, whether it’s shucking a hundred oysters or writing an essay on the French Revolution.”
