The heptathlete’s motivation to continue performing at a high level? Her family. Her father, David Hall, played various sports in college, including track and field. Anna is close to both her father and her mother, Ronette Hall.

David and Ronette share four daughters, Kara, Julia, Anna and Lauryn Hall. The three oldest daughters were involved in sports from a young age. Eventually, Julia and Anna went to the same college in Georgia, where they both competed in athletics.

Anna and her sibling’s passion for sports came from their father, David, who was a college athlete. He was a quarterback at the University of Michigan, where he also played basketball and ran track, according to the Florida Gators, another school Anna attended.

He ran the decathlon in the 1980s, setting a record for his school with his performance, which inspired her to compete in the heptathlon, which consists of seven events.

David’s sports experience made him an easy supporter in his daughter’s career. He knew she would be a star from an early age.

“[From] Between the ages of 12 and 14, I started to notice a combination of her focus and enjoyment of the race, and then her will to win,” he said. “Then after eighth grade and high school, it became very apparent to those around her to see how much she seemed to embrace the track and the grind.”

During her college career, Anna suffered a devastating injury when she broke the navicular bone in her foot. She had a lot of anxiety as she returned to the sport after having to miss the Tokyo Olympics. However, her parents were there to help her in everything.

David was there to cheer her on as she returned to the track for the University of Florida.

“From my perspective, I think the fitness was really a blessing for her and it accentuated her performance,” he told the school publication. “She’s always been very goal-oriented and works hard to achieve them. She did it in high school, she did it at Georgia. She loves it. That’s another thing you can’t miss. She loves being on the track.”

On Instagram, Anna often posts about her parents’ support, especially after big race days. After the injury, Anna published a compilation of her recovery time and return to sport.

She captioned the video, “Just my reminder why this szn and the people behind it will always be so special to me❤️ delayed but never denied… we’re not done yet :).” In the video, she showed moments with her parents, including the moment the three of them hugged after the race.

Anna also posts about their support every year on their birthdays. For dad’s birthday in 2019, she wrote: “Happy birthday dad!! thanks for being my coach and best friend forever…there will never be a #trackdad who does it better than you 🙌🏽 I love you SO much!”
