The San Francisco 49ers quarterback has two very athletic siblings
Brock Purdy grew up in a competitive household – just ask his older sister, Whittney, and younger brother, Chubba.
The Purdy children were born and raised in Gilbert, Arizona, where they were spoiled with advanced training facilities and relatively pleasant year-round temperatures. It was the perfect formula for raising several all-star athletes, and their parents, Shawn and Carrie Purdy, knew it.
Whittney is the oldest of three siblings and went on to play college softball, while Chubba, the youngest, recently signed to play football at San Jose State University. Meanwhile, Brock belongs on his own elite team — at least for now, until Chubba joins him in the big leagues.

Despite being the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, Brock made a name for himself as a running back for the San Francisco 49ers. In December 2022, Brock led his team to a victory against legend Tom Brady during his first NFL start, with his siblings and family in attendance.
Thanks to the NFL, Brock and his siblings were able to make even more memories in the past year. However, one of Brock’s favorites would have to be the time he pranked his family on draft day. After six rounds in which his name was not heard, Brock’s chances of being selected were slim. Then the 49ers general manager called.
“I come into the living room and everybody’s waiting for me,” Brock recalled to NBC Sports. “This is another free agency call,” he told his family, leading them to believe he wasn’t drafted. “They say ‘no way, you’re lying’ and I said ‘that’s it’. ”
“Trying to act sad in the chair,” Brock laughed. Before the announcer read his name out loud, it appeared in large letters on the TV – prompting a furious reaction from the Purdys. “Everybody was screaming and jumping like I was a first-round pick,” Brock recalled.
Here’s everything you need to know about Brock Purdy’s siblings, Whittney Purdy and Chubb Purdy, and their special bond with their famous brother.

Settling in Arizona was easy for Shawn and Carrie, who grew up on opposite sides of the country. “He didn’t go to California and I didn’t go to Florida. This was our compromise. And we love it,” Carrie explained their decision in a 2019 article The Athletic.
The couple raised their children in the middle-class town of Gilbert, located about 25 miles southeast of Phoenix. The area was already somewhat familiar to Shawn, who had visited Arizona often while playing minor league baseball. As time went on and the Purdy children started playing sports, it quickly became apparent that Gilbert was the right choice.
“Arizona sports have been pretty good,” Purdy said in an interview with the 49ers, before the game at State Farm Stadium. “Just in terms of the competitive nature. I feel like I was a really good athlete because of the kids who loved playing sports.”
Similar to Brock, Whittney and Chubba were also able to take advantage of year-round training thanks to the relatively calm climate in Phoenix.

“From a young age, competition was everything,” Chubba told AZCentral in 2019. “We just always want to win and we don’t like to lose.”
Chubba recalled a family vacation where he and his older brother would come up with tricky challenges to see who could outsmart the other and whose skills were sharper and more precise. Whatever it is, Shawn said you can always count on “the gloves.” [coming] when the two of them are together.”

Preston Purdy, affectionately known as “Chubba” by friends and family, got his unique nickname when he was just one year old. In an interview with AZCentral, Shawn recalled how Preston was a “huge” baby, weighing 32 pounds before his first birthday. And so he started calling his youngest Chubba, like the rest of their family.
The nickname stuck and became Chubb’s professional name on the court as well. The rising athlete said he plans to legally change his name to “Chubba” in the near future.
“Everybody calls me Chubba,” he told the newspaper. “People have been saying things like ‘Chubby’, but I don’t care, because my name is Chubba.”

The next generation of Purdy athletes began with Whittney. The oldest of her siblings, Whittney played softball at Spartanburg Methodist in South Carolina for two years before transferring to Southeastern University, where she finished her college career alternating between third base and shortstop.
At the same time, Brock was trying to improve in football. But as he said The Athletic, his hand was no match for his older sister’s hand, which “could launch him”. Even so, Brock said Whittney was too kind and mature to ever hold that against him.

In the announcement of January 14 published on X, Chubba said he is committed to playing football next year at San Jose State University. Chubba entered the NCAA transfer portal after a successful stint at the University of Nebraska, where he played in 12 games. Before that, Chubba played at Florida State University from 2020-2021.
Chubb’s transfer to college means he will be just down the road from Brock starting next season.

In July 2023, Whittney announced on Instagram that she would finally have a sister. Whittney, Chubba and the rest of their family were present when Brock got down on one knee and asked his then-girlfriend, Jenna Brandt, to marry him. Whittney celebrated the milestone on social media, sharing a carousel of pictures from the special day and welcoming Jenna to their family.
“Such a great week celebrating Brock and Jenna🤍,” she wrote. “I’m so excited to have the cutest sister-in-law! I love you both and we are in for an amazing year ahead🥂💍”
Along with several others, Whittney and Jenna traveled to Telluride, Colorado for Jenna’s bachelorette party. “I had the best time celebrating my sister-in-law!!! I love you so much JB and I can’t wait for you to become part of the family soon!” she wrote alongside a photo gallery.
The sisters-to-be can also be seen cheering on Brock at Levi’s Stadium, often with Whittney’s boyfriend.

During an interview with the Omaha World-Herald, Chubba took a moment to sing the praises of his older brother. The younger Purdy acknowledged that Brock not only gave him an affinity for colder weather, but also helped teach him football.
“My brother has helped me a lot in life and football,” Chubba told reporters. Among the many useful skills Chubba learned from Brock, “reading defenses” and “teaching the game” are at the top, he said.
“I really appreciate that from him. He also had a ton of experience, taught me so much,” added Chubba.
