All About Ellen DeGeneres’ New Celebrity Neighbors After Move to England’s Idyllic Cotswolds

Ellen DeGeneres might bump into some familiar faces after making the English countryside her new home.

A source told PEOPLE Thursday that the former talk show host and comedian, 66, moved to the U.K. from Southern California in the past few months.

“Ellen was in England house hunting in early October. She ended up finding a house she loved and bought it soon after,” the insider said.

Earlier this month, DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were spotted relaxing at a pub called The Farmer’s Dog in the Cotswolds, a section of the English countryside known for its rolling hills, historic architecture and quaint villages.

The picturesque area stretches across six counties – Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire, as well as parts of Somerset, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Wiltshire – and its idyllic nature has inspired numerous celebrities to make it their home.

The power couple, married for 25 years, bought their Cotswolds home, which is near celebrity-loved Soho Farm, for a reported $7.7 million in December 2016, according to The house is beautiful.

They reportedly renovated the sprawling property after buying it, and the property now includes a garden, swimming pool, sauna, soccer field, spa and tree house, according to the outlet.

The former soccer star filmed multiple scenes at their country house for the Netflix documentary 2023 Beckham. In the limited series, he opened up about the quiet location and explained why they bought their home.

“I wanted a place where we could escape. As soon as I come to the village, I usually dress up in village clothes. And I have a stick and I walk around,” he says during the episode as he travels through his lush yard. “I’m sitting here, drinking a cup of coffee.”

In a scene where David sits at the table looking at his “favourite view of the house”, he cheekily jokes: “I can also see Victoria if she’s naked in the upper window.”

Also in the documentary, David shows the soccer field on the property as well as their bee farm in the opening scene. Both David and Victoria have shared an inside look at their beekeeping activities on social media, with David recently offering a glimpse of their home farm and chicken coop on Instagram Reel earlier in November.

In an interview with British Vogue back in 2018, the couple — who share children Brooklyn, 25, Romeo, 22, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 13 — told the publication that some of their favorite activities as a family include “riding horses, making pizza, or fishing on their property Cotswolds.”

The British supermodel opened up about her Cotswolds home in West Oxfordshire during an interview with The Times in 2023

She found herself really leaning into the country life by being in bed by 11pm most nights, “bathing in the moonlight” on her property and “recharging” her crystals outside in her garden. She also enjoys “wild swimming” where she goes “to a secret place, in the middle of a lot of fields and only the villagers are allowed to use it,” she told the news outlet.

She also enjoys growing her own vegetables such as potatoes, tomatoes, onions, garlic and lettuce on her property, which she then uses to cook Sunday lunch for her 22-year-old daughter Lila, who she shares with ex-boyfriend Jefferson Hack.

The acclaimed artist bought his 19th-century Gloucestershire home, Toddington Manor, in 2005 for $3.8 million, according to The Guardian. Hirst reportedly planned to renovate the property and turn it into his family home equipped with a private art gallery for his work.

However, his unfinished renovation plans reportedly met with a backlash from locals after it had been sitting for years without any progress.

“It is one of the biggest frictions in this area. People have had enough of it. Damien Hirst has owned this property for 17 years, but it is still covered with scaffolding and tarpaulin, and as far as we can tell there is no redevelopment in sight,” former chairman of Toddington Parish Council Nigel Parker said at the time.

Toddington Castle is currently listed on the Register of Historic English Heritage at Risk. According to the listing, the house was “in mothballs” for years before its new owner, Hirst, bought it.

“The house had been mothballed for over 15 years but was bought by a new owner who embarked on an extensive program of emergency works and repairs in consultation with the local planning authority and Historic England,” the listing said.
