Livingston competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, representing her native Canada in rhythmic gymnastics. In the end, she took 17th place.

The Olympic Games define rhythmic gymnastics as “a women-only event in which gymnasts perform on the floor with a rope, hoop, ball, baton or ribbon accompanied by music, in individual or group competitions.”

At only 11 years old, Livingston moved to Russia to train professionally at the famous Novogorsk camp in Moscow. Due to the lack of funds in Canada, she felt it necessary to take a step to seriously devote herself to her passion.

“My first coach, I saw her perform in Toronto… This is where I first saw the high level of the rhythmic gymnastics team,” Livingston said. During the interview with Neon Tommyshe admitted, “I don’t know how I survived it, but I’m really glad I did. I think it made me a strong and brave person.”

She added: “One thing about the Russians, they have no mercy. I wasn’t around my family, there was no one to coddle me, but it helped me raise my skill level.”

Livingston discovered her love for dance at a young age, before taking up gymnastics. She said that every opportunity to accompany her older sister to a dance class turned into an opportunity to try taking classes herself.

“I’d be at the dance studio with my mom. While she was dressing my sister, I’d take that opportunity to run away and sneak into class,” Livingston said. Volume 2 above.

“Eventually it continued and they put me in a dance class without having to sneak into it. This is where my love for the stage, for creativity and movement began to grow,” she recalled.
