All About Iain Armitage’s Parents, Euan Morton and Lee Armitage

Despite being a teenager, Iain Armitage has already built quite the Hollywood career for himself.

The actor first rose to fame through his YouTube channel, Iain Loves Theatre, in 2014 and then landed the lead role in Big little lies 2017. Later that same year, he landed the lead role playing a young Sheldon Cooper in the hit series Young Sheldon.

But who are the parents who raised the young star? That would be actor Euan Morton and stage producer Lee Armitage. Euan is originally from Scotland and Lee is originally from the Washington, DC area. The couple met in 2005 and had a son, Iain, in 2008. Since then, family life has been centered around art.

Lee has temporarily taken a break from her producing duties to live with Iain in Los Angeles while he establishes himself as an actor and Euan continues to act in theater productions around the world. But most importantly, Iain’s parents are supportive and proud of him.

“He’s very talented,” Euan said of his son Virginia Living 2018. “He is a fantastic actor and a good person. He is naturally altruistic.”

According to his website, Euan was born in the community of Falkirk, Scotland. His father is an electrician, and his mother is a city postal worker. Euan developed his love for acting while growing up in a small town, and participated in numerous plays during elementary school.

At the age of 17, he went to London and entered Mountview, a performing arts college. “I was originally going to study musical theatre, but I quickly realized that studying classical acting would suit me better,” said Euan Maryland Theater Guide 2021 “And so I switched from music to acting after my freshman year. Even now, 14 years out of college, I still miss those days. I miss my friends in London.”

Lee grew up in the Washington DC area and is the daughter of a prominent politician

Lee was raised in the Washington area by her father, Richard Armitage, a prominent politician who spent decades working in government. During his years in Washington, he held various positions in the Departments of Defense and the State Department.

Most notably, he served as Deputy Secretary of Defense during George W. Bush’s first term, serving at major crisis moments such as 9/11 and the War on Terror.

After graduating, Euan began performing in plays and musicals across the UK, e.g Into the forest. But his first big break came in 2002 when he played Boy George in a West End biographical musical Taboo. During the screening in London, Rosie O’Donnell came to see the series and loved it so much that she decided to personally finance and produce it Taboo on Broadway.

“You know, the show in London,” O’Donnell told Katie Couric in 2003, “I’ve seen it eight or nine times. He had a standing ovation every night.” O’Donnell ended up spending $10 million to bring him in Taboo to Broadway, trans The New York Times.

Euan retained his starring role as Boy George, and the play made its Broadway debut in November 2003. Although it received mixed reviews, Taboo he ended up nominated for a handful of Tony Awards, including Best Actor for Euan.

From TabooEuan went on to act in major plays and musicals such as Parade, Sondheim on Sondheim and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Recently, Euan took on the role of King George III in the smash hit Hamilton.

In a recorded interview with Broadway.comjoked Euan about how happy he was to take on the role of one of the Hamiltonfavorite characters. “I got into a role that gets applause even if you’re a capuchin monkey,” the actor said with a laugh. “If you cast a monkey in a role and he came out dressed like a king, people would go wild! So yeah, it’s a great feeling.”

Iain said Northern Virginia magazine in 2022 that his mom was initially hesitant to become an actor, saying, “You hear all these horror stories about all the terrible things that happened in Hollywood with kids going crazy from being there.”

But eventually she relented and now supports him in his acting journey. “Mum is so cool and so kind and always so down to earth,” Iain told the magazine.

Lee also spoke about her initial reservations about 9 News in Australia, but admitted that she eventually realized that acting was Iain’s passion. “He was so excited about it,” she told the paper. “So we made a pact that as long as he likes doing it – and as long as we see it doesn’t affect him negatively – he can do it. If it doesn’t work for our family, we’ll talk.”

In an interview with Broadway.comEuan spoke of how impressed he was with Iain’s career after landing an impressive role in Big little lies and the main role in Young Sheldon. “He’s huge,” Euan said, “and I don’t think it could have happened to a prettier kid, and I’d say that even if he wasn’t my son, honestly.”

Euan also joked about how busy Iain is as an actor. “I say I’m one of the few absent fathers who is away because his child is at work.”

At the end of the interview, he also said that Iain also supports his work as an actor, saying: “He loves me and is very supportive of what I do and it’s important to me that he is.”
