Krasinski and Blunt welcomed their first child, Hazel Krasinski, on February 16, 2014. Her father announced the birth on X (formerly known as Twitter) later that day, writing: “Emily and I are incredibly happy to welcome our daughter Hazel into the world today! Happy Birthday!”

The couple announced their pregnancy in September 2013 after three years of marriage, and Blunt celebrated Hazel’s imminent arrival with a baby shower that December.

In May 2014, when Hazel was almost 3 months old, Krasinski shared her first photo on X. “Pictures of children should only come directly from parents,” he wrote, before adding that he was “thrilled to introduce you to Hazel!!!”

The following year, the couple revealed during an interview for Party tonight that they would like to give Hazel a sibling “one day”.

– We have to give her competition at some point – they said jokingly.

After their second child arrived in 2016, Krasinski told PEOPLE that Hazel was an “amazing big sister.” He also said Hazel was a “big talker” and “all that girly stuff”, along with drawing and riding bikes with her dad.

According to Blunt, Hazel initially spoke with a British accent like her mother, but later began to adopt an American accent. “Hazel had my accent for a long time and said things like ‘water’ which I was really proud of,” she told Jimmy Fallon in 2016. “And then the other day she said, [feigning American accent] ‘Can I have some water?’ And I said, ‘It is water.’ And she said: ‘No, it is [American accent] water.‘ ”

“The girls came up and said, ‘Wow, you’re doing such a great job, Dad,'” he said. “And then Hazel literally leaned on my shoulder and said, ‘So good. Don’t you think you should put up pictures of us?’ ”

He added: “It was all fake families in the frames! It was unbelievable. I think she was genuinely worried I was losing my mind.”

In February 2018, Krasinski revealed that Violet already had an ear for music during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He was trying to entertain her by singing a nursery rhyme, “And suddenly Violet, who’s 18 months old, says ‘Yes, baby,'” he said, lowering his voice to a lower octave.

“So deep! And I said, ‘Emily, first of all, has she heard the song before? Second of all, what was it?’ And she said, ‘I have no idea,'” Krasinski recalled.

While her older sister may have taken on more of an American accent at one point, Violet adopted a British accent while at school in London during the COVID-19 pandemic. Blunt appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! 2020, explaining that both Hazel and Violet attended “a real school with matching uniforms” and “sounded quite British”.

It was almost like Dick Van Dyke singing ‘Jingle Bells’. The craziest accent ever – it was kind of brilliant.”
