All About Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song’s 2 Kids

Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song may have found fame as child stars, but they are now parents to two children of their own.

The Home alone actor and Zack and Cody’s apartment life the actress started dating in 2017 after meeting on set Changeland in Thailand. A year later, Macaulay spoke about his future with Brenda on the show The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

“This one is good, so I’ll probably put some kids in it a little bit,” Macaulay said. “I mean, we definitely practiced.”

The couple welcomed their first child, Dakota Song Culkin, on April 5, 2021. Less than two years later, Brenda gave birth to their second son, whose name has not been confirmed, Macaulay’s brother, Kieran Culkin, confirmed at the time.

Macaulay and Brenda’s first child, Dakota, was born on April 5, 2021, in Los Angeles and weighed 6 lbs., 14 oz., PEOPLE confirmed.

“We are overjoyed,” the couple said in a brief statement announcing the birth of their son.

The baby boy was named after Macaulay’s late sister, Dakota Culkin, who died on December 29, 2008 at the age of 29 after being hit by a car while crossing the street.

They got engaged after welcoming Dakota

Nine months after welcoming their son, PEOPLE confirmed that Brenda and Macaulay are engaged after Brenda was spotted with a diamond ring on her left hand while in Beverly Hills, California.

In September 2022, Brenda opened up to PEOPLE about her wedding planning process, saying it was difficult balancing being a new mom.

“Planning a wedding is so expensive and so time-consuming,” she told PEOPLE exclusively. “Being a new mom, we are very busy. It feels so convenient to be able to sit down and be able to do everything at once.”

At the time, she launched her own bridal collection with Amazon Handmade, and even had a custom gold bullion bracelet made with Macaulay’s name on it.

“I have one like it so I can put my son’s name on it which is really special,” she added.

Kieran confirmed when their second son was born

Amid speculation that Brenda and Macaulay welcomed their second child in December 2022, Macaulay’s brother, Kieran, confirmed the arrival of his newest nephew at the premiere of the final season of the film Succession.

“I haven’t met No. 2 yet, and they haven’t met No. 2 yet,” the actor said Access to Hollywood, referring to his own children with wife Jazz Charton. “We just couldn’t figure it out.”

Brenda said she and Macaulay are “hands-on” parents

In January 2022, Brenda opened up Cut about her and Macaulay’s parenting philosophy and how they are very “practical” parents. The couple decided to forego a nanny despite their busy schedule, instead enlisting the help of Brenda’s mom, who has stayed with them since Dakota was born.

“When I was working, my mom would bring him to the set so I could nurse him and see him during the day,” she told the news outlet. “People tell you a lot about labor and pregnancy, but not about the fourth trimester. I tell my girlfriends who are pregnant, get help. Because your instinct is that you want to do it all, and you physically can’t.”

She added that she adjusted her entire routine when Dakota arrived, but still tried to carve out some time for herself to do things like exercise during his naps.

“To be the best mom, I have to be the best me,” she said. “And exercise helps me not worry and think too much.”

Macaulay took some time to introduce his children to their relatives

While Macaulay lives in LA, his younger brother Kieran lives in NYC, making family gatherings difficult to arrange.

“Cousins ​​live in Los Angeles and we live in New York,” Kieran said Access to Hollywood in March 2023 “I have a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, and as busy as I am, I just can’t get on a plane and go, and the same goes for them.”

It took Kieran some time to get to know Dakota when he was just born, as the actor recalled in Succession premiere of the third season in October 2021.

“I haven’t actually met his son yet because he lives in California and there’s been work and the pandemic and all that stuff,” he told Access to Hollywood.

Although Kieran, whose children are around the same age as Macaulay’s, was “a bit ahead of the pack when it comes to being a dad”, he had no plans to give parenting advice to his older brother.

“The best advice anyone gave me when I became a new parent was don’t listen to anyone’s advice, you’ll figure it out,” he said.

Brenda put a lot of pressure on herself to get back to work quickly after giving birth to Dakota

After welcoming Dakota, Brenda said Cut that she felt pressure to return to work soon after, but that it was “harder than I thought”.

She added that before, she always liked to be the first on set, so when she returned, it was difficult for her to ask for even 20 minutes to express milk.

“There were so many long days when I would come home and my son would already be asleep,” she said. “I put a lot of pressure on myself to continue to breastfeed him while I was working. I was pumping throughout the production.”

Brenda said she also struggled with “FOMO,” or missing out, being away from her son as he experienced his first milestones while she was on set.

“The hours away from my son took their toll on me. Learning my own boundaries while trying to take care of my son and my family — that was hard,” she said. “It hurts me to miss those hours with my newborn son, but at the end of the day, a mom has to put food on the table. You have to make sacrifices. I hope they will understand.”

Both children attended Macaulay’s 2023 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

When Macaulay received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in December 2023, his fiancee and two children came to support him.

Macaulay was photographed kissing his younger son’s scalp, while his older son was spotted sporting a mohawk.

“I would like to thank Brenda. You are absolutely everything,” the actor said in his speech. “You are the best person I have ever known. And after the birth of our two boys, you became one of my three favorite people.”
