All About Matty Healy’s Parents, Actors Tim Healy and Denise Welch

Matty Healy comes from a family of stars.

The 1975 singer is very close to his father British actor Tim Healy and mother Denise Welch. While Tim is best known for being an actor, Matty’s father also has quite a bit of musical talent.

“My dad wrote [The 1975’s song ‘Don’t Worry’] 1990 or so,” Matty once said NME. “My dad was a welder, then he became a stand-up comedian and started a live theater company. At a time when people were going around Sunderland and Newcastle doing stand-up in the 70s, he was going out and playing shows.”

The “Somebody Else” singer used his songwriting skills to open up about his relationship with his mother.

“‘She Lays Down’ is about my mom,” he said NME. “It doesn’t get much more personal than that…[Denise] told me the story, she was so overcome with postpartum depression that she would come into my room when I was a few months old, lying on the floor and actively trying to love me.”

Tim and Denise first met at an audition in Newcastle, and that was it not love at first sight.

“I just thought he was such an idiot,” she told her ITV panellists Relaxed women. “I always thought he was really grumpy and cautious – I thought he was a fantastic actor.”

However, she was quickly proven wrong after Tim drove her home from the party. “I got this guy all wrong,” she explained.

Tim is best known for acting in TV shows like Auf Wiedersehen, Fri and Benidormwhile Denise previously starred in Coronation Street and soldier soldier. She is also currently a panelist on an ITV talk show Relaxed women.

The British TV actors married in London in 1988, a year before Matty was born. Denise’s career took off in 1993 when she was cast as Marsha Stubbs in ITV’s soldier soldier. Things got even busier for Denise when she joined the cast Coronation Street 1997 to play Natalie Horrocks.

While her career was on the rise, Tim and Denise lived apart. Soon, Denise began to struggle with clinical depression and tried to self-medicate with medication.

“I reached a point where I felt that taking cocaine was the only way I could survive,” she wrote in her 2010 autobiography. Collect oneself. “A merchant came to meet me in a side street. I knew I was taking my life into my own hands. Not only because I met a dealer who would be known to the police, but because I could have lost my job. Matty was born in London on April 8, 1989, just a year after Tim and Denise got married. To celebrate Matty’s 33rd birthday, Denise wished her son all the best and shared details of her birth story on Instagram.

“You were definitely worth 42 hours of work!!” she wrote with a post on social networks. “Happy birthday to my first born… Love you Matty moo.”

The couple then welcomed their second son, Louis, in 2001. Like Tim and Denise, Louis started acting. He has acted in several TV shows and films, including an ITV drama series Hotel Portofino.

“Hotel Portofino starts tonight on @itv at 9pm,” Denise wrote on Instagram in support of her younger son. “If you haven’t seen it on @britboxtv you are in for a treat!!! Very proud of @healytymd and the stellar cast.”

In an honest profile with NMEMatty revealed that he wrote the emotional 1975 song The Lays Down about his mother’s mental health issues.

“‘She Lays Down’ is about my mom,” he said NME. “I’m sure mom won’t mind me saying this, but she told me a story when I was about 17 years old, she was so overcome with postpartum depression that she came to my room when I was a few months old. old, lying on the floor and actively trying to love me.”

The lyrics read, “And she lays on her bedroom floor / The chemicals that make her laugh, They don’t seem to work anymore,” and continue to “And when I go to sleep, she starts to cry / She’s terrified she doesn’t love me at all / She is frowning even in her dressing gown / When she lies down.”

Although writing the song was difficult for Matty, in the end he thinks the song “had to come out.”

“How brutal is that? It’s brutal — especially considering how close me and my mom are,” he said. “We’re like, crazy close. It resonated with me so much that I think writing music for me is such a catharsis and such a personal thing. ”

Denise opened up about the story behind “She Lays Down.” Relaxed women to his fellow panelists: “When he was older, I told him that depression had robbed me of my ability to love, and I lay on my bedroom floor and prayed for the ability to love my children again.”

The Relaxed women The panelist is undeniably proud of her son’s success with The 1975. She often takes to social media to express her admiration for Matty and his bandmates.

“Laughing 4 best friends who met in high school, started a band in our garage and today are celebrating their 5th #1 album,” she captioned an Instagram video of Matty and The 1975 band members receiving an award for their fifth consecutive #1 album. “Don’t stop believing in children ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

Tim’s talents extend far beyond the TV screen. As part of the 2020 album The 1975 Notes on Conditional FormMatty revealed that his father, Tim, wrote the song “Don’t Worry.”

“My dad wrote it in 1990 or so,” Matty said NME about the song. “I’ve heard that song all my life, but it’s never been recorded.”

Matty went on to praise his father’s influence on his own life and the British entertainment industry.

“Even though my dad never liked punk, my dad has always been a punk,” he said NME. “My dad was a welder, then he became a stand-up comedian and started a live theater company. At a time when people were going around Sunderland and Newcastle doing stand-up in the 70s, he was going out and playing shows.”

“When he became famous through [working class 1980s TV comedy-drama] Auf Widersehen Frihe kind of became a figurehead for a political movement, like subsidizing industry that led to miners’ strikes and all that stuff,” Matty added.

The 1975 had a very special guest join the band on stage during their stop in Newcastle on their At Their Very Best tour – Matty’s father. About two hours into their performance, Tim joined Matty’s band to perform a cover of their 2022 song “All I Need to Hear”.

Denise posted a video of Tim’s surprise appearance on Instagram, captioning it “Matty’s dad Tim was a special guest in Newcastle tonight!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”

Later in the night, Tim called Matty “the king of the town”.
