All About Novak Djokovic's 2 Children

Meet Novak Djokovic’s children.

The tennis star is the father of two children: son Stefan Đoković and daughter Tara Đoković, whom he shares with his wife Jelena.

The couple, who were high school sweethearts, got married in 2014 and had a son, Stefan, in October of the same year. Their daughter Tara was born in September 2017.

Novak is a proud dad and often praises his children – whom he calls “my angels” – in interviews and tributes on Instagram. Although his children certainly learn a lot from Novak, he also learns a lot from them.

“I have the privilege of being a father to wonderful children, so I try to use that childlike energy and encourage my inner child because I often forget my inner child because everything is so serious,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion said at the 2022 tennis press conference.

Both Stefan and Tara can often be seen with their mother in the audience at tennis tournaments cheering their father on from the stands. Recently, Novak’s little ones were at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, where they watched their dad win the gold medal for Serbia.

“Stefan, our angel was born! I am so proud of my beautiful wife Jelena! Thank you so much for your love and support. We love you all!!!” he wrote then.

Despite his young age, Stefan has already shown his athletic abilities — and with a father like Novak, it’s no surprise that his sport of choice is tennis. However, the tennis star made it clear that his son’s decision to play was not forced.

Novak Djokovic set the record for the number of Grand Slam titles won for men after the 2023 French Open.

“I’m not forcing him to play tennis. I’ve never done that, I’ve never told him for a single day that he has to do that,” Novak said at a press conference in 2022. “It’s really just his pure desire to step on the court. So if he wants to go on this journey, I guess I have to go with him.”

He added: “He’s doing well so far, he’s really into the sport.”

Novak was seen hitting the ball back and forth with Stefano on the court. The budding athlete was even seen practicing with his father at last year’s Wimbledon Championships, ahead of Novak’s seventh Wimbledon title.

“He likes to do it,” Novak said of Stefano’s forehand during an interview with ATP tour. “He likes to intimidate me on the court by finishing the swing here. He knows I don’t particularly like that.”

Novak continued: “I’m trying to teach him to finish the arm here, the swing, over the shoulder. He does that, but he also does this. Whenever he does it, he always laughs because he knows. We have such funny moments on the court.”

On September 2, 2017, Novak and Jelena had their second child, daughter Tara. The tennis player announced the exciting news on his Instagram, welcoming his “little girl” to his home.

“Jelena and I were hand in hand on their journey and as a man, I have to send my love and admiration to every woman out there because she went through so much pain and effort to create life, to bring life and raise a man to be… what a blessing to have the chance to be a parent!” he wrote alongside a photo of his baby’s tiny hand.

He added: “Jelena and Tara are my angels, and Stefan is a proud older brother who wants to be involved in the affairs of the baby.”

Over the years, Tara – like her older brother Stefan – has been seen cheering on her father in the stands. However, unlike Stefan, she is not currently interested in playing tennis.

“She’s not into tennis at all,” Novak said of Tara during a press conference at the 2023 Australian Open. “She’s into ballet and gymnastics. You know, she’s a really sweet girl. She keeps me grounded and humble, and she turns me on every day. ”

Although Tara is often seen at Novak’s matches, this does not necessarily mean that she is constantly rooting for him. When you talk to BBC Sportthe tennis champion joked that his daughter is a fan of Russian player Andrei Rublev, whom Novak met in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in July 2023.

– She likes it – Novak said with a smile. “She likes him because of his headband and his energy and intensity.” He added: “It’s my daughter’s number one choice, yes.”

In July 2024, Tara made headlines when she was spotted reading a book during one of her dad’s Wimbledon matches.

“I was very happy when I saw that, but also sad at the same time. My tennis doesn’t excite her that much… she should take a book to have fun,” Novak joked in an interview with the Tennis Channel.
