All About Thandiwe Newton’s Older Daughter, Screenwriter Ripley Parker

Thandiwe Newton and Ol Parker are “deeply proud” of their eldest daughter Ripley who is following in their footsteps with a successful career in show business.

Ripley was exposed to Hollywood early because her mother is an actress who starred in the Mission Impossible 2, Western world and God’s country among other things, and her father is the screenwriter behind hits such as Dear mother! Here we are again and A ticket to heaven.

Two decades later, she too is forging her own career in Tinseltown, and her big success comes in 2023 when her first screenplay is titled All right now was taken over by Netflix.

“Do I think I’m here because I’m good at what I do? That. Do I think I would have had the opportunity to do what I do professionally without the success and influence of my parents? I have no idea. It would have taken a lot longer and it would have been a lot more difficult – if it had happened at all,” she said Glamor UK while discussing the “nepo baby” stigma.

Newton and Parker support their daughter, s All old knives the actress said in a 2010 interview that she wanted her daughters to “feel empowered.”

“I think it’s important as a mom to teach my children that they are extraordinary, powerful beings. It’s your job to keep the path clear so there’s nothing for them to trip over.”

Newton and Parker welcomed their first child, Ripley, on December 17, 2000, just over two years after they were married.

“I was different things in different contexts and I didn’t feel beautiful until I had my first child,” Newton previously said. The Telegraph.

With the help of a midwife, Newton gave birth to her daughter at home.

“I just associated the hospital with illness and I felt beautiful and healthy and wonderful when I was pregnant, and being at home is the place where I felt the most relaxed and comfortable,” she told Today show.

She was named after the character of Sigourney Weaver

When the former celebrity couple was choosing a nickname for their baby girl, Newton was inspired by a 1970s movie.

“I named my child Ripley after Sigourney Weaver aliens,” she revealed Sup.

Weaver took on the role of the film’s protagonist Ellen Ripley — who was also one of the first action heroes on the big screen — which garnered worldwide attention and her first Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

She is a screenwriter

Like her father, Ripley is a successful Hollywood screenwriter. Besides creating the Netflix teen drama All right nowhe is also working on a jukebox musical based on the music of The Smiths, as well as a play about the life and relationships of the poet Emily Dickinson.

She also contributed an essay It’s not OK to be blue (and other lies): inspiring people open up about their mental health 2019 Ahead of the release, Thandiwe shared a sweet tribute to her daughter, writing: “Deeply proud of the phenomenal @ripley.parker. Her first published work is a breathtaking piece in @penguin #It’sNotOKtoFeelBlueandotherlies @scarcurtis.”

Politics informs her writing

When Ripley begins writing the manuscript, politics play a significant role in shaping the narrative.

“I think it’s especially encouraging to make a really diverse show. And that it is in the foreground while we make and cast it,” she said Glamor UK about creation All right now.

“I think many, maybe most, of the key romantic relationships depicted in the series are queer relationships,” she said. “But at no point does anyone have to come forward or assign a tag.”

“I think the oddity of the series is a reaction to the trajectory of the world in the last few years — which is not great. So we made what is now, I guess, quite an idealistic show, and I don’t think it should be idealistic at all. It should be somewhat inevitable.”

She was the inspiration for her father’s film A ticket to heaven

For the 2022 movie A ticket to heaven starring Julia Roberts and George Clooney, Parker looked no further than his own relationship with his daughter when writing the rom-com.

“The movie came out of a conversation I had about Ripley, who was, I think, 18 at the time and starting to make her own decisions — all of which are obviously brilliant, and not necessarily the ones I would have made for her. — so it was just that thing, how hard are you pushing yourself? How much do you try to be wise and say what you absolutely know, and how much do you just sit back and leave it to them and watch the next generation rule? That was the genesis of the film, how it came about,” he told ComingSoon.

Her sister is also involved in show business

Ripley is the oldest of three children, followed by younger sister Nico and brother Booker.

Nico is also building a career in the entertainment industry, but unlike his sister, in front of the cameras. She made her film debut as Milly Farrier in the live-action Disney film adaptation Dumbo in 2019

Following her role in DumboNico appeared in the TV series Third day as well as the 2021 film reminiscence next to his mom.

She recently played the role of Sarah in the HBO adaptation The last of usbased on the video game of the same name.

She once swore at Boris Johnson

After spotting former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson at a screening in 2017 Harry Potter and the Cursed Childthen 15-year-old Ripley approached him and swore in his face.

“She went and said ‘Hi Mr. Johnson, I’m Ripley and I just wanted to tell you that you’re a p–t. I hope you enjoy the show,’ Newton recalled Sunday Times.

Ripley later said Glamor UK that she did not regret the interaction. “It was a naughty move, but I’d do it again.”
