All About Tia and Tamera Mowry's Parents and Siblings

Tia Mowry and Tamera Mowry were there for each other no matter what. But there’s no doubt that they also had a lot of support from their parents, Timothy and Darlene, as well as their younger brothers, Tahj and Tavior.

Timothy and Darlene met while in high school and were quickly married in what Tia described as a “shotgun wedding.” Both served in the US Army, and Tia and Tamera were welcomed at the age of 21.

After having Tia and Tamera in 1978, the couple welcomed Tahja in 1986 and Tavior in 1993. Like their older sisters, both brothers were into entertainment. Tahj is an actor and Tavior is a musician.

All four siblings and their parents value the time they spend together and are very supportive of each other. Following the news that Tia is divorcing her husband Cory Hardrict in 2022, Tamera said, “Whatever she wants, the Mowrys have her covered.”

In 2024, Tia spoke about the “distance” between her and her sister, including their reality series, Tia Mowry: My next act. Despite both being so busy, she told PEOPLE that she still has “so much love.”

“You start out as siblings in a household and family, and as we grow up and start families of our own, it’s very normal that we all take on new roles and responsibilities when it comes to our lives,” she said. “My sister has her own family… I guess that’s normal. It’s very natural that we make our own lives.”

In 2018, Tia shared part of her family’s story in her web series Quick fix by Tia Mowry.

“My parents were in the army. They ran away to get married at the age of 18. It was a bit like a shotgun wedding, so to speak,” she explained.

“They had me and my sister at the age of 21,” added Tia. The twins were born in Gelnhausen, Germany, while both Timothy and Darlene were deployed. The family then moved to Texas, then to Hawaii and back to Texas.

Tia also spoke in the web series about the sacrifices her mother made to advance her children’s careers, including moving them to Los Angeles.

“She took me to LA and she promised me,” Tia recalled. “She said, ‘If you book something, whether it’s a commercial, whether it’s a television show, a guest spot, then I’d move the family to LA.'”

Tia ended up booking the commercial, and Darlene made good on her promise. “My mom was in the army and you can’t just leave the army,” she added. “She had to take her case to court.”

She continued: “If it wasn’t for my mom, I wouldn’t be here. She worked so hard for us.”

Tia also added that they just arranged for her mother to leave, so Timothy stayed in Texas after the rest of the family moved to LA. He was later transferred to Germany for two years.

Tia said her dad likes to cook, especially barbecue. His excitement has even affected how she raises her own children.

“My dad would always barbecue in the yard,” she explained. “I would like to see him doing what he loves, which is cooking. This is one of the reasons why I like to cook myself. I would just watch him get ready and we would have the best father daughter conversations. Plus, I love cooking with my kids making great memories.”

Timothy and Darlene are divorced

In April 2019, Tamera shared Real that her parents divorced about four years ago and started dating again.

She noted that Darlene was “very withdrawn” about her love life. “She’s a Scorpio and she knows I’m going to be very, very stubborn,” Tamera said. “I will be as strict with her as she was strict with me. So she can’t date anyone.”

On Real A year later, Tamera shared that she met her father’s new girlfriend and that he “absolutely loves her.”

Their younger brother Tahj is also an actor

Tahj Mowry was born on May 17, 1986 when the family lived in Honolulu.

He followed in his sisters’ footsteps as an actor, appearing in several episodes Sister, sister along with Tia and Tamera, and in recurring roles Full house and Out all night. In 1997, he started acting in a television show Smart guy.

Tahj dated actress Naya Rivera

Tahj used to date a colleague Smart guy actress Naya Rivera, who died in July 2020.

The couple initially met as child models in the early ’90s, when Rivera was just 4 years old, according to E! News. After she disappeared, he shared an emotional tribute to their relationship.

“We grew up together. We became adults together. We experienced so many firsts together,” he wrote on Instagram. “You were my first experience with everything; love, intimacy, heartbreak. … I will never think of you.”

A year after Rivera’s death, he said Glamour she was his “first celebrity crush”.

“I have so much respect for her family. I’m still in communication with them, so I just want to make sure I respect that and what her family is going through,” he said. “It’s hard to measure up to the type of girl and woman she was.”

Their youngest brother, Tavior, is a musician

Tia, Tamera and Tahj have a younger brother, Tavior Dontae Mowry, who was born on July 5, 1993. Although he did not follow his siblings into acting, he is still a performer: Tavior is a musician and music producer based in Nashville.

Tavior played football for the University of California, Davis from 2011 to 2013. After a career-ending injury, Tavior began DJing at sporting events to fulfill his athletic scholarship. “The word got out on campus that I was throwing and DJing these parties,” he said NashvilleVoyager magazine in 2022. “From DJing, I started producing and playing instruments.”

The youngest Mowry shared some sweet birthday messages for his big sisters in July 2022.

He shared pictures of two handwritten notes on Instagram. He wrote to Tamera: “I am so grateful for your kindness and gentleness that you show to everyone you come in contact with.” In Tia’s message, he wrote: “I pray that you get everything you want in life. You are a certified fraud!”

Tavior married Zandy Fitzgerald in 2020

In September 2020, Tavior married Zandy Fitzgerald in Nashville.

They both posted pictures from the big day on Instagram. Tavior wrote in his caption, “God is GOOD.” In her post, Zandy wrote, “God writes the best stories.”

In February 2023, the happy couple had a son: Triumph Alexander Mowry.
