Demi Lovato has a very special new sparkly look.
The singer-songwriter, 31, said she romantically proposed to musician boyfriend Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes during a surprise engagement in Los Angeles on Saturday, Lovato’s rep confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE.
Lutes, 31, surprised Lovato, who uses the pronouns she/they, with a pear-shaped diamond engagement ring made in collaboration with New York fine jewelry boutique Material Good. He worked closely on the design with Teresa Panico, director of marketing and fine jewelry at Material Good, a SoHo, NYC retailer.
The couple first met in January 2022 when they co-wrote Lovato’s song “Substance” and went public with their relationship in August of that year.
After their “personal and intimate proposal,” they celebrated with their families at one of their favorite restaurants in LA.

During a recent appearance on Show Jennifer HudsonLovato opened up about her relationship with Lutes and even opened up about how she “helped” with his latest tattoo.
“So my boyfriend was on tour with me, visiting and we had a tattoo artist there and he wanted to tattoo the title of my song ‘Forever for Me,’ which is a song I wrote about him,” Lovato said. “And while he was getting the tattoo, he said, ‘I want you to do it.’ ”
After the initial shock, Lovato agreed to help with the ink.
“I assisted, I wouldn’t say I gave the whole tattoo, otherwise it would look very bad,” they said with a laugh. “But I did a good bit of it and it turned out OK.”

Back in September, the “Confident” singer opened up about her nerves and excitement when she first met Lutes at LadyGang podcast.
“I texted my friends and said, ‘Oh my God, the hottest guy just walked in. I’m so nervous. I don’t know what to do with myself,'” they said of first meeting Lutes at the session.
She added that the Canadian musician was so professional that it took them “several months” to accept a romantic relationship.
“He was so focused on the music,” Lovato said. “We were friends for a while, and then we told each other how we felt.”
On Lovato’s 31st birthday in August, Lutes posted a series of selfies and silly videos in honor of his love.
“happy birthday to my best friend. You are clearly the most beautiful and talented person to ever do this,” he captioned the post. “but more importantly, you’re weird and you make me cry with laughter.”
