When will Todd and Julie Christley be released from prison?

Todd’s release has been pushed back to January 22, 2033, two years earlier than the original 2035 release, while Julie, who is serving time at FMC Lexington, Kentucky, will be released on October 19, 2028 — 15 months earlier than her originally planned release date.

“Without question, Todd and Julie are exemplary inmates who received excessive sentences,” Jay Surgent, the couple’s attorney, told Insider.

“I think Todd is down to 10 and Julie is five now.”

Why did Todd and Julie Chrisley go to jail?

Federal prosecutors alleged that Todd, his wife, Julie, and their accountant, Peter Tarantino, submitted false bank documents and lied about their wealth when they applied for loans between 2007 and 2012, aiming to defraud banks of more than $30 million.

All three were charged with five counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and one count of tax fraud. Julie is also charged with one count of obstruction of justice and one count of fraud.

They claimed to be innocent.

“Over the course of decades, the defendants defrauded banks of tens of millions of dollars by avoiding paying federal income taxes,” U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Buchanan said in a 2022 statement after the sentencing. “Their lengthy sentences reflect the magnitude of their criminal scheme and should serve as a warning to others tempted to exploit our nation’s community banking system for illicit personal gain.”

“As today’s outcome shows, when you lie, cheat and steal, justice is blind to your fame, your wealth and your position,” Keri Farley, special agent in charge of the Atlanta FBI, said in a statement after the jury found them guilty.

“In the end, driven by greed, the guilty verdict on all counts of the indictment for these three defendants proves once again that financial crime does not pay.”
