According to the story, Max, an adorable furry friend, was rescued in Georgia when he was about a year old and moved to a shelter in New Jersey.
As soon as she walked through the door of the shelter, the workers knew that her first years were not easy. It was clear that Max had been mistreated when small bullets were found in his hind legs.
The team is trying to get Max to be adopted as soon as possible by a family that will give him unconditional love.
That didn’t happen, however, and after nine years at the shelter, the dog is still waiting for a roof. Rescuers believe Max’s massive body has discouraged families from adopting the cat.
Max has always been a big dog and the breed is sometimes misunderstood as cold and heartless, but don’t let its size fool you; he is actually quite gentle and sympathetic even though the first impression is the opposite. Max the Mush is what he is known for at the shelter.
Even though Max weighs 90 pounds, he often behaves like a puppy, eager to cuddle and play.
Everyone has an innate need to be loved, and animals are no exception. Unfortunately, some people don’t see this need and abandon their pets, even worse, some mistreat them.

Eleventh Hour Rescue volunteer Paul Barish exclaimed, “Max is a happy boy, always smiling.”

Shelter employees were hopeful that his charisma would help him find a permanent home, but he was repeatedly abandoned.
Max has spent most of his life in a shelter and that’s starting to affect him. He just wants to be loved and have a fixed place to call home.
Paul added: “Max has coped very well with life in the shelter, but living so much in the center has taken a toll and is extremely stressful for him.”
Max is a wonderful dog that understands the meaning of loyalty and would be an asset to any household. As a group, the workers decided that Max would be better off living somewhere other than a shelter.
Paul said: “Max will live best in a quiet, child-free environment with an experienced owner who can help him through the traumatic experiences he went through at the shelter. “
Max is the only animal in the house. Max loves to drive, run, play and sleep well, his satisfaction with life is breathtaking and he just wants to share it with his loving family. We share the shelter’s optimism that Max can find his permanent home with the right people. She told him her background in the hope that he would soon find out.
