This included use of the pool and relaxation rooms, which included a hot tub, wooden sauna and foot baths, as well as facials, massages and beauty treatments such as lashes, nails and spray tanning.

After opening back in 1996, originally as a themed Pirate’s Lagoon, it was eventually converted into a spa in 2003 following the opening of the park’s water park.

However, it was forced to close on December 31 – and will not reopen

A spokesman for Alton Towers said: “After careful consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to close the on-site Spa.

“This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is crucial for the future growth and development of the Resort.

“Our top priority has been to support our employees at the Spa during this time, including advice on the career opportunities available across the Resort.

“We are also in the process of contacting guests with 2024 bookings to discuss alternative options.

“We sincerely appreciate the loyalty and support of our valued guests and dedicated colleagues over the years.”

However, they added that they only had “limited bookings” so they would refund guests or provide an alternative option.

People have raved about it for years, and some adults say they often go there after dropping their kids off at the park.

One woman wrote: “The spa had tons of amenities (even more than some top spas I’ve visited).

Others said it was “fantastic value for money” with staff going “above and beyond”.

Prices were just £40 for a three hour session or £45 for massages.

It’s not the only area at Alton Towers that has been closed in recent months.

In November 2023, the fairground’s Retro Squad rides, which included the remnants of Funk ‘n’ Fly, Twistatron and Spinjam, were removed.

But this year sees the opening of a brand new Alton Towers rollercoaster.

Nemesis at Alton Towers, which closed in 2022, has undergone a major refurbishment and will open this year.

Here are five new rides and rollercoasters opening across UK theme parks this year.

The park said it was closing the attraction ahead of new plans for Alton Towers in 2024.
